Ziplock bags.

I keep the backstock stored away and only bring a small bag of what I need for the day.  Anything that get's used stays out until it's been rinsed n dried.

Selling some items I have laying around.  Located in San Jose.

1.  Harbor Freight bed extender.  $25
Scuffed scratched up on the bottom far end from going up driveways, otherwise works perfect!  Got a rack so no longer needed.  Missing pics as it's in storage.  Comes with reflectors and pins.

2.  Wall mount racks $25

2 sets sold together (good for two kayaks).  They worked perfect for my revo's.  Back to apartment living sadly so no longer using these.

I have a house in the keys in south lake.  If anyone wants to launch from my dock hit me up.  It’s a 10 minute paddle to the main lake.

Thanks for offering this!  I would definitely take you up on this in the future.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Chilling salmon after bleeding/gutting
« on: September 01, 2020, 02:06:40 PM »
The only issue that I face is that it's hard to put in the work for the infrastructure after I've been skunked 5 or 10 times in a row. Hauling the cooler, bringing the ice - it can get a bit much if you're pretty sure all you're gonna catch is a skunk.

bring the ice = skunk
leave the ice at home = limits of hogs

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Budget Salmon Rod
« on: August 19, 2020, 01:31:10 PM »
Depends on what kind of salmon fishing your doing, but a good all-around rod for salmon fishing as well as other species from rockfish, halibut to tuna is the Shakespeare
Ugly Stick Tiger rod .  A cheap 7-8ft fiberglass rod works well for soft biting salmon and mooching.  You should be able to find one for around $20-40

yes to the fiberglass blanks.  I use one of these in the downrigger version https://www.fishusa.com/Okuma-Classic-Pro-GLT-Trolling-Rods?quantity=1

Dirt cheap and is the exactly what I need for salmon.

what i'd be curious about...would it be any different to freeze the fish immediately.  then defrost.  then age as you wish.

correct me if i'm wrong here... but thinking about the markets in Japan, aren't those tuna frozen stone cold?  then a sushi chef will purchase their portion and age the cuts as desired.

this is probably worth a watch:

General Fishing Tips / Re: Scopolamine
« on: August 03, 2020, 03:36:29 PM »
A followup as I finally tried out ebay purchased Kwells (scopolamine).

The plan was to take it soon as I arrived at launch to give it 30mins to kick in.  I actually forgot to do this and ended up taking it as I launched otw.

While the swell wasn't huge, I had to tune a new downrigger clip, and threading a Krippled Anchovy the first trip of the season always has me fumbling a bit.  So there was quite bit of eyes-down time.  Sure enough I started to feel my stomach turning.  After about an hour from launch, I suddenly started to feel great.  The seasnickness was all gone and I forgot it was even a thing.  Clearly the Kwells kicked in, as while I felt great I had dry mouth from hell.  I had to take squirts of water in the middle of fighting some crazy salmon.  Other than the dry mouth I had no other side effects which was great.

This method is superior to meclizine for me, which requires me to take it the night before and makes me rather be asleep than fishing.  Not to mention I'm exhausted the rest of the day from it.  It's a big advantage to be able to show up to the launch then take the pill.  Not always we wake up to alarms, or we show up to launch to find out the conditions suck.  Not fun being doped up on meds from the night before for no reason.

The relief band Pacific mentions has me interested for sure.  It'd be ideal to get to a point where I take no drugs at all, or only on bigger swell days.

salmon on board - fish barbless for everything else
no salmon on board - fish with barbs for non-salmon

Recipes / Re: Rockfish Sushi - yet again
« on: July 28, 2020, 08:01:05 PM »
If you're freezing it properly there shouldn't be any issue...could even eat lings raw.

Unlike salmon, alot of fish have more transparent flesh and a trained(sushi chef) eye could spot a parasite.  Think about how often halibut is on sushi menus.  Doubt it's always frozen.

Black/blue rockfish have me thinking though, do they often have parasites considering they're more of a mid-water column fish?  I've not noticed any myself but then again they usually go in the fryer =D
