Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Fishing rod float or leash?
« on: February 07, 2020, 04:15:18 PM »
I've been twisted up in a rod leash before, never again.  With that said I still do not use a float for my rods and have so far been lucky not to loose any.

I'm curious more than anything else, but does the one day license app offer a start date and time for it to go into effect?  I sell a ton of non-resident one and three day licenses here in Michigan.  Somebody buys a license at 8 am but wont be on the water until 4 in the afternoon, no problem, have the license start the 24 or 72 hours at 4 pm.

I could see a Pit river trip in my future when I head back to visit family.

General Talk / Re: Markley Cove Kayak Launch $$$&
« on: June 19, 2019, 04:27:57 PM »
There are plenty of spots around the lake, Markley Cove included, that have easy access from the road for a kayak.  The downside is parking your vehicle alongside the road and being subject to theft.

Years ago and dirt poor I used to launch an aluminum boat about half way between the dam and Markley Cove.  Lowering it down to the lake was easy enough.  I used the winch on an old Scout to bring it back up   :smt003

After this post and hearing it go down on tourney day I went to Wal-Mart and got 25 more pool noodles to stuff in my Eddyline. I already have 20 or so in it.
Is that overkill?
They were the last in the store. 25 cents each.

I've lost count of how many noodles I have in my Kraken, i would guess around 50-60.  I couldn't put another one in there if I wanted to.

Nice to hear everything worked out on the recovery.  I've only met raydon a few times and he came across as one tough sob and a hell of a nice guy.

Too far and too much for me but is a great offer.  Inherited stuff or are you tired of catching trout?

I only made a few NCKA events but always had a great time, ate awesome food and met some wonderful people.  Making future events however, probably wont happen.  My wife and I have moved just outside the little town (ie tiny) town of Cedarville Michigan.

Kayaking is huge here, its common to see dozens of vehicles with kayaks each day, though I'm not sure how popular it is as a fishing platform.  It is a little late in the season and the movers are dragging their feet hauling our stuff from California so 2018 may be a bust, but fingers are crossed for the salmon/steelhead runs.

Sporadic posts from michigans fresh water oceans to follow.

CA Regulations / Re: Mountain Lion Safety

I've seen a few big cats, ran into a lot of bears and was charged by one sow with a cub, had a doe in a game pen go after me, unintentionally went swimming in the ocean with my kayak and have also fallen through the ice while fishing.  I drive like a little old lady and really don't think I should buy a bike anytime soon.

NowhereMan, as a future Michigander I'm curious how you hooked up with this site.

Thanks chattich,

I found out about JNW reptiles a week or so back but trying to not go that route.  The snake has to go before we put the house on  the market, we hope to sell in June.

Well that trip was a surprise.  Friday night the water was flat as could be and wind was minor.  Saturday morning the water was flat and the wind was a non issue.  The fans really started to turn on from around 11am until 4ish or so then died back down.

There was NO swell, no waves, little wind and very few kayakers or boats out on the water.  Based on weather forecast I left my kayak at home  :smt009

We picked up just one keeper crab off of the jetty.  One member of our group did drop 4 pots with a kayak for about a 4 hour soak and limited with a couple of jumbos.
