Heroes On the Water (HOW) / How to donate gear?
« on: June 17, 2019, 10:33:17 AM »
I have a bunch of gear to donate, including kayak, paddles, seat, etc.  Who can I contact?

+1 on all the comments regarding a VHF; for HMB a VHF is not optional.

You can find all of my HMB lessons at this link.  That was my maiden voyage and I thought I was taking it slow.   :smt005

I have no stake in any of this.  Actually the whole conversation is disappointing.  Ideally this miscommunication error would be solved outside of the community and these threads would, by mutual consent, be removed entirely.  This discourse does not add value - IMHO.

So...you're telling us you retired while in your 40s?  I should only be so lucky.

I still have two kids at home...12 and 14; I'm 56.  So retirement is only a dream...hell even a 4 day work week is a dream.

Feel fortunate!

The link below is to CCK's response.  There ARE two sides to every story.  You be the judge.

I had the same reaction...that falling coconut stat is so stupid.  Those might the odds for the general population...but if you are going out on the NorCal big blue those odds have got to be way higher.

Maybe I'll just drink beer for October, or at least stay out of the salt.

Is there GoPro down at the bottom?  If so, maybe someone dives and gets it?  Will go International if there is, could probably sell it for a fortune.

I will not be able to participate, as much as I want to.  Taking my 13 yo son to Santa Barbara for a Lacrosse tournament.

If I can get the time off I'm interested.  I decided to use this trip as an opportunity to learn how to create custom Google maps.  I think I've got it at this link, feel free to change the map to adjust as the group adjusts plans.  I've made it public so anyone with the link can change it.

General Talk / Re: CA planning to ban lead fishing tackle
« on: September 24, 2014, 05:49:58 PM »
Right...I always thought that lead in solid form wasn't "toxic".  Does anyone remember biting split shot as a kid?  I sure do.

Isn't the problem with lead when it's in a more soluble form, like in paint?  I'm no chemist, but this has always been my understanding.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

This SHOULD be all that's needed to answer any of these questions, that it's not is a shame.

CA Regulations / Re: Kayak Fishing With a Landing Net
« on: September 15, 2014, 07:18:47 PM »
For surf launches it's almost a safety issue.  A net should not be required for human powered boats.
