Well Kevin, you convinced me to try to make some of my own kokanee lures, but now I am trying to figure out a good source for all the beads and spinner blades. Any suggestions?

Wow, what a fantastic weekend! Perfect weather, a plethora of amazing food and a bunch of good people. I was great seeing old friends again and meeting a lot of new people.

Big thanks to Brian for getting this set up again this year. The 3rd Annual BB FnC is already on my mind for next year! From talking with others there, it's on their mind too.

Only took a few photos. I'll post them soon. As usual I was too busy talking, drinking and fishing to remember to get the phone out. I know that others did, so please post what you got.

I never got a count, but I'd guess that 15-20 people decided to join in fishing tournament.
Here are the results:

1st place for best limit(10) by total length-----Plug-n-Jug. Ok. I admit it John, I bribed the kokes to bite my hook!

Longest single Kokanee----Bree. She took that with a nice 13-3/4" beauty.

Longest alternate specie fish----Brian. He brought home the prize with a nice 14" Rainbow trout.

Thanks to all those that donated swag to the prize piles!!!

Thanks again to all of you for making this such a wonderful event!!!

Kevin.

Thanks again everyone for all the hard work! It was a great weekend! We will be returning next year!

She has both of those things! if it isn't too much trouble, she would love the opportunity to try one. I have a tandem that we both use also, but certainly nicer in your own yak!

My mom is coming up with me! She recently moved to the area and is very interested in getting a fishing kayak of her own. I told her you guys are a great group to ask all the questions she has!

does she have  a license and pole? I could bring an extra Yak if you want

You guys have fun. I want to join but I'm busy with Mother's Day weekend. Go slay some MONSTER kokes!

Yikes. Every time I think I am ready to start trying to harvest mushrooms I hear another of these stories! Seems like it just isn't worth the risk to me.

Does this mean that Cabezon and greenlings are unfishable (from boat) from April 1 - April 30 and Dec 1- Dec 31? Not sure how common they are offshore, but I imagine they pop up every now and then.

Glad to have you on board!

Yeah, I can see that happening, really hard for me to get an understanding of the size of a trailer without seeing them in person. Does anyone know of a shop around Sacramento that has some of these on display?

Honest reason for not choosing the microsport lowbed instead of the ecolight was just that I didn't notice the lowbed option while shopping online  :smt044 I'm towing the kayak with an EV, so I was hoping to choose the trailer that would give the best fuel economy, but couldn't find a straight answer on 8in vs 12in wheels being better.

10
Thanks for the tips, and would love to see the trailer. My mom is looking for a light trailer for a kayak and this one caught my eye. Curious as to why you picked it over the Malone microsport lowbed (besides the price).

I bought a Malone Eco Light trailer from Amazon and assembled it last weekend, today I went to the DMV with an appointment to get it registered and thought it would be useful to post some info about it.

What you'll need to bring:
- Bill of sale or receipt that shows you paid sales tax ideally with the VIN on it
- Manufacturer's certificate of origin that shows the VIN, make, and year
- REG 343 (APPLICATION FOR TITLE OR REGISTRATION) filled out as best as you can https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/uploads/2020/06/reg343.pdf
- Valid drivers license
- Approximately $53 to pay for the fees

What I should have done when arriving is pull over to the side of the DMV and look for a sign that says "Inspections", you'll want to park there and when approached let them know you need a VIN verification done.  They will fill out a REG 31 form https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/file/verification-of-vehicle-reg-31-pdf/ (this is done by the DMV, you don't need to bring this form or fill it out yourself) to make sure the VIN on your manufacturer's cert of origin matches the VIN on your trailer, so make sure your VIN is printed somewhere on your trailer :smt001 Mine was just a tiny little sticker:

Once you have your REG 31 form complete they no longer need to look at anything on the trailer so feel free to park anywhere far away to find a spot and enter to get a number and wait.  When at the counter they will ask for all the forms I mentioned as well as your drivers license then type some stuff into the computer and after a little while you'll walk out with a permanent plate that I was told never needs to be renewed.

What I did instead was go to the counter first then I was told I had to go do the inspection and come back to wait through the entire line again, but she said since I was polite she'd freeze my current number in the queue and when I'm done just come right back to her counter to finish the process phew.  Another tip is when they do the inspection you can tell them the trailer is a multi-use trailer, so it will be legally registered to carry anything from boats to bikes to hauling stuff around.  Hope someone finds this useful!  Once it stops raining I'll make another post with the mods I did to the trailer :smt001

Very different numbers if you include other "groundfish" species (like Lingcod), might be the reason for the discrepancy.

I had posted annual commercial takes for the US in another thread and it was very flat for the last 20 years.  But the NOAA also allows you to query their databases and you can pull up by state / species.  So I queried California, last 15 years, all species of rockfish.  The results were eye opening.   Commercial rockfish take is climbing very rapidly.  Columns are Pounds, Tons, $.

I'm getting different numbers when I run the query, using this page, https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/foss/f?p=215:200

Same here. Attached is the table that I see. Harvest was much higher until 2003 and then dropped dramatically and has stayed pretty steady since. Note that I did not include all years for clarity. This is a great site by the way. Thanks sandwg for posting it.

Thanks for the heads up! I"ll message BB. I may have another group coming with me, so I would need to make sure there is room.

BigDistance1, you might want to jump on this. You could cancel your School House reservation and and join in the Fuckery with us at the Dark side!

General Fishing Tips / Re: Kayak loading on tailgate spoiler

Yeah, that would work! Need to be careful about weight restrictions, but if you're just using it to load the kayak, it should be fine (my hitch is rated for 200 lbs TW). Still a bit out of my price range, but if one fell in my lap I might try it out.

All the T-loader bars I have seen have been made for a 2 inch hitch. I have not found one made for a 1 inch hitch. Not a big deal for me, since the PVC I made works pretty well, but I was very curious about where you found one for a 1 inch hitch. A T-loader bar I could leave attached to the car, which would make loading and unloading the kayak slightly faster and would be a slightly lower point to lift too, but not sure it is worth the price tag (they seem to be in the $200 range). Mostly I was thinking about my wife, who can load the kayak, but it is very difficult for her.

Can you use one of 1-1/4 inches to 2 inches Hitch Adaptors instead to use 2" T-Loader?

Sorry, my t-rack was made by a friend. Simple one inch stock found at any metal yard. Unfortunately does not have adjustable height. Was a great deal because my buddy had some stock laying around as well as cutter and welder. It cost me a six pack of beer.

I thought I did a search and there were some one inch available? The one inch hitch is great. The two inch hitch was just over kill for my CRV . I can easily pull my 12 foot aluminum as well my kayak trailer.

Would love to see your t-rack that fits a 1 inch hitch, do you recall which brand or where you got it? I installed a hitch on my Honda fit, and this might work for me.

Ok, hopefully I can detail this correctly.

On my crv with spoiler and rear antenna. I installed crossbars and 1 inch trailer hitch for t rack.

I lay my kayak on the ground touching the ground side of my crv, with about one foot of the kayak forward of the t-rack.
I then attach a rope to the rear handle of the kayak and the other end of the rope to the lowest part of the t-rack.

Lift the forward part of the kayak . With the rope attached, the kayak will not slide back, allowing you to lift the front end and place on t-rack.

You do have to maintain control of the kayak as you move to the rear of the kayak so it does not slide off. Then lift the rear end up and slide on.

Eventually I will add a saddle on the t-rack so I don't have to worry about it sliding while lifting.

This works great for me. :smt001
