RIP Keith I didn’t have cash one time for a lure I wanted and told me to get him next time. 51 years in that tiny shack such a salty guy at times but awesome resource for info. Helped a lot with fishing preservation too.

I submitted mine backwards. The biggest lings spawn in the winter plus like the option with crabs. Halibut is spring, summer for me.
Just PM me your email address, and I can remove it for you to resubmit.

Paul

Thanks Paul i meant winter to spring. It was on purpose

Sounds like we will be picking the 7th as the Derby date. Do any of you have any ideas on how to get more people to bring food to make it a big potluck?

What about instead of a potluck having some sort of food truck or something show up? Potluck is great but a lot of people are trying to maximize their time on the water, then clean and load gear, etc etc. By the time all that is done prepping food is maybe not high on people’s priority list.

Food truck is a great idea

Make it a requirement to enter the tournament and show proof on arrival. Also push back the food/raffle time to 2 pm… 12 is too early

Chuck Bonham director said something pretty interesting. The commission has no control over making the rules. The quillback limits are set at the federal level and they set a limit this year of only 1 metric ton of quillback.  He said the system is not “keeping up with reality and doesn’t know what to do about it”. The data comes from the federal level and he has to work with Washington and congress. CDFW is one piece of the puzzle but doesn’t have a lot of control on change. The data is collected from what commercial says they catch and the recreational fishing surveys.  Paul, thanks for recording the YouTube recording and showing up.

I caught a 27 pounder in Monterrey earlier this year and had to hit it with a bat about 20 times before it stopped thrashing. Those big mommas have 2 lives. Congrats on catching some massive halibut in the dead of winter. Good job you’re the halibut king.

That doesn’t actually say who you are, other than a few internet handles.

I see a lot of opposition on those threads, with many questions essentially ignore.

Did you watch the full video of them presenting to the CDFW board? Their proposal might not be perfect for everyone but at least they are making the effort to give more representation to the kayak community. They made some valid points and the director and board might listen to them in 2024.
