I'm getting to damn old to haul the sucker up on top of my camper or lift it up onto the roof of my car so I scored a used Malone Trailer.  It needed some TLC, the wiring was shot and only the drivers side turn/stop lamp worked. At least the tires were new.  Previous guy never bothered to register it or put the vin sticker on it.  Malone used the axle serial number to find the vin and when I sent them the bill of sae they sent me the vin, Certificate of origin and a bill of sale.  So after replacing all the wiring and installing new marker and passenger turn/stop light I got it registered and plated with the DMV.  I mounted a Thule Cargo box in the center of the cross bar nd Thule J racks on either side.  I can stow an lock all my gear in the box. so nice

Wife wants to see one in person before she will let me buy one. She wants to be sure she can move it sans kayaks.  Anyone within in an hour of Livermore willing to show their trailer off? Pm me

Hot, windless and low tide

But when you haven't had a day off work in over a month it was glorious.  We went out from the Big Break Regional Shoreline Park cause it's free.  The tide was out and the launch was devoid of water and was solid muck.  Luckily next to the pier there is small rip rap with solid footing so we carried the yaks over that and launched.  I was trying out my outrigger kit for the first time . Should have left them in the high position more on that in a bit.

With the seriously low tide  it was a solid carpet of marine plants all the way out to the channel between the islands.  Rudders up, drives on deck, nothing hanging down.  Paddles only for about 30 minutes. The Outriggers really got in my way and I had to modify my stroke.  Next time I will have them stowed and put them on out in the channel. 

Once we got out and into the channel we made our way out of Big Break and started catching some small stripers in about 10-15 feet of water mostly in the 14 inch range.  Those little suckers totally ripped apart the paddle tail minnow jigs I was using.

Now about the outriggers in the down position they really make the kayak stable when getting hit sideways by power boat wakes and when casting but if you are going any distance or trying to make time up or off are the only way to go in my opinion.

Anyways we had a blast and were out for just under 5 hours and rode the incoming tide back to the now full of water launch area
I could have done without the 98F air temp though.  We had the AC blasting all the way back to Livermore. The tracker we had showed that we covered 5 miles out on the water.

Dang it was good to be back on the Yak and be pain free.  It's been 9 months since I shattered my left ankle.  Ran into Mel (Fishing Addict) in the parking lot, it was good to see to see a familiar face.  Anyways I was out there for about 3 hours on my Revo.  Back gave out before the Ankle did.  I know Mel caught at least one fish and so did I. Good day all around

Saturday is going to be my first day back in the Hobie since I broke my leg. I'd like to go hit the Consumnes but if the flow is moderate to fast it will be too much for the ankle to deal with.  Any current info would be helpful.  If its moving well I will go hit a local lake like Del Valle so as to not risk further injury.

I was fly fishing on Putah Creek by access 5 on Saturday. Water was running high and the places to fish were few.  I was walking along the the upper bank and saw a potential spot so i worked my way down the hill to the water.  The bank looked solid as I walked up then it gave way taking me with it. i twisted backwards which is good because I ended up in the slack water instead for the faster water and getting carried into a strainer. as I fell I felt my fibula break.  I crawled back onto the bank and was actually able to gingerly weight my leg.  One of the guys I was with saw me go down and helped me make it back to my truck where I took off my waders and boots, splinted my ankle ad drove to Kaiser Vacaville.  They reset my leg and cast it. Spiral fracture of the Fibula and two small fractures of the Tibia. The tibia was also displaced from the joint.  tomorrow I get screws and plates and get to do nothing for 6 freaking weeks.  Stay safe out there
