Yes Eric they do. Have them head out with Rudy and his kid in Alaska. Rudy a few years ago got a 150 plus one in Seward trolling for silver salmon in his kayak!

Last year for my group on an overnight trip we got three over 100 and three over 60. Our lone rookie only got 2 35 pounders!

Colero used to be a real good crappie lake.

I'm with the Hobie Outback, since I had one for years till I sold it for a BigFish 108. The 108 is a stable platform that paddles like an old cast iron tub, but is so stable I can keep my uncoordinated butt inside of it with no worries about falling out.

It is real heavy, 115 pound hull weight, so you better be quite strong to maneuver it in and out of the water. I travel with mind in the back of my pickup and I can load it and unload it myself since I have a good system.

The pedal drive is very robust on it and should be since it is cast metal with a steel chain inside. It is noisy, but it can get the "tub" up to speed quite well.

I haven't put it in an ocean yet but is has kept upright in a 25 mph wind on a big lake here in Texas. Since it sits so high in the water it did keep most of it out of the hull.

How was the sleigh ride? I caught a few of those in one of my private ponds and it took forever to land them on an ultra-lite. Fun, but sketchy at every run.

Last one I got was well over 10 pounds and my son watched me get towed back and forth for almost a half hour. He would just laugh at me as I'd go by one way and then the other.

PM sent.

Hey TW I see you are from Sonora. I used to live in Cedar Ridge ages ago on the canal. Loved having to just walk out my back door to fish for trout during the season.  I do miss Pinecrest and Melones, But being in Texas it is all about LMB's and I get my share or trophy ones every year. My biggest is a 12.4 and I have skirted around the 10 pound range on several occasions but haven't got one yet. My buddy who I fish with has three that he has gotten with me and all I got was a few 7.5 and 8's. It is almost time here to hit the pre-spawn so I am getting ready for that

I'm so grateful to still be here, I can't stop the tears.  This is a very emotional journey.
My doctor said my life will be greatly effective, lung capacity will probably be around 65%of what it was.  I live with that.  But I won't be able to risk any infection in the future, I'm still immune compromised from my cancer and always will be.

Glad to see you're doing better.

General Talk / Re: Gordon Ramsay in NZ

Gordon is moving his US headquarters to Texas and opening 23 restaurants. Can't wait!!!

Then looks like Texas attracts Gordon Ramsay and Elon Musk.
So far California has been successful at attracting.. umm.. criminals?

Kind of funny you mention that. Violent crime is actually higher in TX than CA. https://www.thecentersquare.com/texas/how-the-violent-crime-rate-in-texas-compares-to-other-states/article_35ba69b7-e7f2-5e9e-ae89-e206bf9dbeef.html

About Musk moving to TX. A place where his company can't sell, register or have the customers take delivery of the very cars that they make in that state. Kind of hypocritical IMO. Also he pays a 3.9% tax rate and was complaining that rich people shouldn't be taxed. No wonder he moved there.
California with all its problems doesn't have issues with book burning, indifferent government, consistently rising property taxes, electrical grid failures, absurd abortion rulings, backward thinking etc

Our crime is high here due to Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Here out in our rural regions, where I happen to live we have no crime to speak of. They do try and sometimes get away with it, but lots of people here have security cameras and the perps know it. Added bonus most of us are armed and we have laws to protect our property at all cost. Perps know this and leave us alone

At one time, right before I got into kayak fishing, I started taking flying lessons.  It didn't stick, but recently I've got the bug again.

Does anyone here fly?  Anyone with recent flight school experience or know a CFI?  I'm looking for an accelerated program but if a part 61 instructor and plane were available on a 4-5 day per week, 2-3 flights per day, i'd be interested.  It can't be here in Humboldt, the weather and the instructors are too unpredictable and is what turned me off last time, cancelling more often than we flew.  Hence the need for accelerated instruction.  I'd go anywhere in the US but prefer to stay somewhere on the west coast that isn't southern California.

Even if someone could point me in a direction.  Some online forum where I might find a culture like NCKA?  Anyone have a Beechcraft Bonanza or Mooney 201 for sale?

Well first off the screen name "crash" won't get you any friends when flying! :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

It has been so long since I took lessons, I haven't a clue who to fly with. But if you do, find a good flight club that will not shutdown in the dark of night. Make sure they are reputable and have good instructors. I am also an aircraft mechanic  so I knew a lot more on planes than most instructors do.
If you do find a club, hopefully they have good instructors who actually have a lot of "stick time." I had one with less than 300 hours who got us into an unsafe predicament which my experience got us out of. You never want that.
Good luck in your endeavors and if you think kayak fishing is addicting, flying is a worse addiction!

or catch a limit of crabs and can't account for the one who crept into the darkest part of the inside of your kayak and died there during the night and you forget to go look for it for two days!  :smt013 :smt013

Love it Al!!! But I must say, California will always find away to take one's money in a hurry. Here in Texas I do not pay car registration fees due to my disabled veterans status.

General Talk / Re: Bass pro/ Sportsman warehouse merger denied

I miss Cabelas when they had their own sales and not just a carbon copy of Bass pro's as they are now.

We still have one Cabela's store here in Allen TX but it is being inundated with Bass Pro merchandise. It is still busier than either two Bass Pro shops we have in our area though.
