Hey guys. Just wondering if someone from San Rafael or passing through SR able to pick up two downrigger for me this weekend. Either to San Jose or Fresno. Or even hold onto for me since I’ll be going to Bolinas when salmon opens and could pick it up as well. The guy is only holding and selling it this weekend. If you can help, let me know. Greatly appreciate it.

Hey everyone. As I'm prepping for the upcoming salmon/rockfish season, I notice I have a ton of stuff that I don't use anymore. I'm sure a lot of new guys are to the sport so here you go. Located in Fresno so shipping is possible if you pay for shipping. I do go to the bay often to fish so I could meet up on the weekend. Or meet me at San Luis Reservoir (Los Banos) and fish :)

here are the items:

1. Hobie H-Crate

***** asking $120 *****

2. Lowrance Elite 5 Chirp with 83/200+455/800 Transducer. One note on this is the transducer one of the pin broke. It is the one that display water temperature. Everything else works. You could pick up a new transducer for 50-60 bucks on amazon.

It comes with the headunit, power cable, transducer, hobie battery holder, SLA battery (7ah)...I'll toss in a SLA 20 ah battery (this doesn't fit the battery holder)

***** asking $180 *****

3. Hobie Adjustable Rod Holder

This one goes into the molded rod holder on the kayak. Include all the hardware you need.

***** asking $40 *****

4. Hobie Tackle Management

**** asking $10 ******

5. Two measuring board

**** asking $5 each*****

6. Free splash jacket and wetsuit (was given to me when I first started kayaking so passing it on)
 (medium in size)

Let me know if you have any questions...open to offers as well or best offer. First to send payment gets dib and will be held until we determine a method to get it to you

Here's to a killer 2020 salmon season :)

General Talk / July 28 - Aug 4: Alaska Trip...Recommendation
« on: April 01, 2019, 09:37:09 PM »
Hey guys...heading to Alaska in July/Aug for a week staying at Moose Pass at buddy cabin. Looking for suggestion or any recommended charter. At the moment we are book on Aug 1st and Aug 2nd on the Cracker Jack. Wow 370 per day going for halibut. I better get some barn door for that price. Initially we secure a whole boat for 3 days but a few of the guys in the group weren't interest :( so the cabin owner released it.

Also if someone know someone who rents a hobie kayak over there. Would love to try and catch a pac hali on a kayak out at Seward. I saw video of Rudy T video on youtube and man what a thrill to catch one on a kayak lol

He lives near a few river and lakes so I'll be trying to fish there or explore as much as possible. Wondering if I should bring my rod and reel. At any rate, anything else I should prepare or bring or check out would be appreciated. I'm looking forward to it already :)

Thanks

Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone has purchase the hobie trax 2 V2 wheels to fit in the hobie HD cart frame.

Here is the tire from austin kayak

http://www.austinkayak.com/products/18163/Hobie-Replacement-Wheel-for-Hobie-Trax-2-Kayak-Carts-V2.html

The version two uses a cotter pin vs the old trax wheel.

I remember asking on the hobie forum and they say it doesn't work but I believe that was for the V1 trax wheels.

Reading the Q/A on the HD hobie cart on austinkayak site it say it should fit

http://www.austinkayak.com/products/2935/Hobie-Heavy-Duty-Plug-in-Kayak-Cart.html

"Q: What are the recommended soft air tires that would fit this cart in case I wanted to take the kayak to the beach? thanks
Asked on Aug 11, 2015 by Gonzalo V. in FL

A: You would want the product linked below. http://www.austinkayak.com/products/18163/Hobie-Replacement-Wheel-for-Hobie-Trax-2-Kayak-Carts-V2.html

Since over the weekend in GS, I brought the big beach wheeleez and I'm still taking a long time to load it and strap it down. I have an outback with the a total scan transducer with cover on the bottom which doesn't sit too well on the wheeleez frame. Anyways I like the scupper cart for its ease to use.

Anyone want to trade? beach wheeleez for a Hobie trax 2-30 kayak cart or even the Hobie Trax 2 cart

I remember being there around the triathlon race last year and it wasn't too bad if you get there early lol. Parking at the Old Pier. I'm sure the main parking near the hmb kayak rental will be packed. Traffic will be extra bad that day lol

For Trade / Thule Aeroblade ARB60 (60 inch)
« on: March 13, 2017, 12:33:01 AM »
Its a long shot but anyone want to trade a Thule Aeroblade ARB53 (53 inch) for a 60 inch lol Not sure if anyone would downside but if you are, let me know :) I just picked up another hullavator to transport 2 kayak and the 53 inch I don't think will fit without it hitting the car. Having the extra 7 inch I would feel more comfortable lol

Anyways if you do have it laying around, I'll buy them off of you. New is 200 so if all else fails, I'll just go ahead and get it. Thanks

General Fishing Tips / Lowrance Elite 5 Ti...Satellite Lock Issue! Help!
« on: November 19, 2016, 06:49:41 PM »
Hey guys. I just got the lowrance elite 5 ti and tested it out on the water today however notice that I am not able to get satellite lock. I tried everything I know, read up on the manual however not much on it.

Other than the GPS issue, the touch screen, sonar, downscan, sidescan, etc...worked awesome. Love it. Now I just need to get the GPS to work!

I played with it more tonight. I hooked up my old Elite 5 chirp and it found satellite within minutes. I then hooked up the Elite 5 TI in the same location and it still searching even after 30 minute of it on.

Anyways if someone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

General Fishing Tips / Fish Finder Image/Setting Advise for Ocean
« on: May 22, 2016, 11:42:20 PM »
Hey guys and gals. Just a few questions in regard to setting for the ocean. The last couple of outing, I have been messing around with the setting on the lowrance (I have the Elite 5 chirp). For freshwater, I have it dial in but for some reason the ocean is a tad different.

For one, I notice in the fishing mode ie freshwater, shallow, general, deep, etc...I tried deep water, brackish water, and general. All looked different.

In the ocean, I notice I don't really get much arch as compare to freshwater.

Here is what I have been using:
ping speed = normal since I'm stationary
frequency = high/med chirp

everything else is default. I go between sonar and split screen of sonar/downscan.

The first picture one is in deep fishing mode.
Can you describe the 2nd one. I'm assuming its bait fish, actually crab in the 40 feet down. Not sure what the 3rd pic is.

Let me know what kind of setting you are using :) Any tip is appreciate. Thanks.

Hey guys. Meet up with LBSteve at 6:15 am at the Forebay to head over to PG. Got there at 7:30 and OTW at 8.  Fish from 8 til 1:30 pm (for me), Steve stay out a little longer. The morning the swell wasn't bad but picked up as the morning went on. The bite at the beginning was slow. There were seals all around us. We were marking big school of something. We figure it out later that it might be squid.

Figure the seal were scaring all the fish so we head out deeper. I put on a sabiki to see if I could get some live bait for the lingcod. As soon as we got to the destination, the clicker went off. I was excited to get some live bait to try for some monster ling. However getting it to the surface it wasn't the right kind of fish. I had 5 blue rockfish on the line. haha. It did put up a great fight! All fish were released.

Put it back down again and immediately hooked up again. It was another 5 bluefish. Released all again. Did this for another 4 times and each time it was 3-5 blue rockfish on. Within 10 minutes, I had 30 rockfish. As soon as the rig got down, it was fish on. All fish were released using the rig.

From my understanding, since I didn't have any rockfish onboard/stringer, I could continue to use the sabiki? If that is not correct, please let me know so I don't get a ticket :) I didn't keep any of the fish caught on the sabiki rig. At any rate, after 10 minutes, I stopped using it since it was only getting the smaller grade rockfish and switch it over to jigging swimbait.

Another question, any tips on getting live bait without the rockfish attacking it?

The bite was slow with jigging swimbait until Steve gave me this watermelon curl tail. Man the color combination or the favor was the ticket. It was none stop action. They would short bite it. Eventually they took the tail off the bait. Even with the tail gone, it was still catching fish. lol

Well the swell got really bad. At one point, it was so high, I couldn't see the mountain or Steve. Let just say the swell eventually got me bad even after taking dramamine. Eatting didn't help and any liquid I drank I donated to the ocean haha  :puker: After :puker: I felt better and continue fishing. Fought through the sickness but the action was slow. After many :puker: I called it quit since I wasn't really fishing haha. I was more focusing on keeping stuff down lol.

Bonus is that we got to saw a school of dolphins (bum that I didn't have the camera on) and a Gray whale circle us. Thing was massive. Was hoping to capture it on camera but only got it breaching the water for a quick breathe of air. He/she stayed around for a bit and still didn't get it on camera :(

Overall it was a good day beside the big swell and getting sick. Thanks Steve for joining me. Always a pleasure fishing with you buddy. By the way he got a wetsuit :) Until the next adventure.
