General Talk / Fishing January-May
« on: December 11, 2019, 10:15:37 AM »
Hi guys,

Curious to understand what most people are targeting (besides Dungeness) between January-May, when groundfish closures are in effect. I was assuming mainly flatfish? With that being said, is it still okay to just catch and release groundfish from a boat if you claim to be targeting other species?

Went out of Half Moon Bay yesterday, first time taking out my new Hobie Compass.

Got out between the green and red cans by 9am, fishing was pretty slow through the morning, then around noon, got a big hit on my swimbait. Thought it was a big Ling, but when I got it close to the surface, realized it was a 36 inch, 20lb. Halibut! First Halibut I've ever caught, and easily the biggest fish I've ever landed on a kayak.

Hey everyone!  :smt006

My name is Brendan, really excited to be joining NCKA. Just picked up a Hobie Compass after using an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 for the past few years. Looking forward to meeting other members and getting out on the water!
