Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Link up for delta fishing
« Last post by Blue Jeans on September 10, 2024, 11:52:14 PM »
Stripers are starting to pour into the lower delta. Glide baits around the tule and current breaks are kicking out some fish. Lots of weeds making trolling difficult. There is a deep hole at the mouth of the sac down that is a favorite for jigging in the fall for small stripers. The stripers will push up with the cooler weather, but I would focus on the lower sac and big break or even make Franks tract if want to do the San Joaquin side.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Considering Capitola for Friday 9/13

I was also thinking of heading down there Friday to try for some rockfish before the season closes. I’ve never fished it before but figured I’d get on here and see what kind of info I could scrape up… and saw your post. What launch spot are you looking at using?

At the risk of spot burning ignominy, you can fish Capitola around the kelp, mile buoy, or the SpongeBob buoy, which may or may not exist at this time. Or take a long paddle/pedal to SC3

That's not spot burning..Alle well known.  Plus NCKA should get a leg up on info.  Post reports in the "members only" section to avoid trolls.  Takers not givers)

General Fishing Tips / Re: Fillet Queen

She got gut juice, slime and blood all over the fillets and then dunked them in fresh water. She needs to wipe the knife between external cuts and meat cuts and keep a cleaner surface.

Capitola has been on Fire! Good thing your doing Friday. Saturday is the Art and Wine festival and it's a mess down there in the morning.

Work gave me a comp day this Friday due to the fact that they actually made me work for a living recently, so of course I checked the forecast. Santa Cruz looks a bit bumpier for Friday, but Capitola looks good. There have been reports of good halibut action in Cappy and I expect the rockfish and whatnot have received less pressure over the last couple of years.

Last Capitola launch was a long time ago for me and included a fishfinder-busting wipeout on the landing. That was my last beach launch. Haven't missed the sand getting on everything, but have missed the scenery and fishing spots. What could go wrong on a Friday the 13th return to the beach?

Forecast is for light winds, puny 1-foot swells, and a reasonable 3.5-footish tide height for landing that seems like it shouldn't be a problem. The combination of long-period southern swells slamming the beach and an extra high tide causing waves to bounce sideways off the cliff are what got me last time.

Thinking about showing up early to prep for a 6 am launch or to leave myself time to retreat to another harbor launch if i lose my nerve.

General Talk / Re: Shark Shield/Ocean Guardian out of business...

I still have a SS new in box. Bought it during the group buy in 2018 and never used it.
I wonder if the battery is any good after sitting for 5 or 6 years.

Papa Al! I’d buy it if you want to sell it :smt044
