On the DFW website there is an option to have fishing licenses automatically renew. It seemed like a good idea, so I tried to set it up (requires a password and credit card info). But, after enabling it, it says that I don't have any license that is eligible for auto-renewal, even though my fishing license expires in a couple of weeks, and I've received several email reminders from DFW telling me that I need to renew my fishing license.

I'm just curious if the auto-renewal thing has worked for anybody...

Auto-renewal has worked great the past 2 years that I've had it enabled.  I believe you can only enable it at time of purchase, not after the fact.  So you'll be able to manually renew and enable auto-renew for next year.

If so, that's not clear online, at least not to me...

Does that surprise you?

When are we going to get out of the stone age and go all digital with our licenses instead of requiring a hardcopy?

I ran into the same point of confusion today, during checkout while buying the license labeled as 2023 fishing license it gives you to the option to auto renew and the license will automatically activate in 2024 after your current license expires

Yes, it does make sense that you can sign up for auto-renewal when buying a license. I'm not sure why they do not allow it afterwards, especially given that it looks like there is such an option...
