General Talk / Memorial Day
« on: May 28, 2021, 10:46:04 AM »
The Day is one for us to honor the men and women in our military who passed while serving our country.  It is not the day to thank veterans and active duty for their service.  Anyday other than Monday is a good day to thank them. (my son who is in the Air Force let me know) . He also said; "Don't wish anyone a “Happy Memorial Day”.  Memorial Day is not founded in joy with the promise of bringing happiness each year. "

General Talk / Folsom Lake level and the drought
« on: May 27, 2021, 08:54:33 AM »
Folsom Lake is well below its seasonal level by about 60 feet and speed limit on lake is 5mph.  It is going to be a long dry summer. "good news" for kayaks as we wont have nearly the number of PB's to be concerned about.  Not sure if other area lakes are as impacted.

Up North, I heard the Klamath is in really bad shape as well; which is more concerning for the salmon population.

A great ending to this story.

I think he took the "just one more cast and I will head home" saying a little too far.

General Talk / Random thought
« on: June 12, 2020, 02:47:18 PM »
With a view at current events, what are the odds that Fort Bragg, CA will have its name changed, or at least have someone in Sacramento try to pass a bill to change the name?

Hello members in the area.  I left my paddle on the dock last night  :smt012  IF any of you by chance found a vibe paddle it is mine.  I was not able to go back last night or this morning and I am sure it is found by someone.  Thanks

General Talk / Ugly Stik Carbon?
« on: November 07, 2019, 11:41:14 AM »
I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to gear, and I'm thinking of getting a new casting rod but I don't want to spend over $100.  I know there are strong opinions and want to know what your thoughts are on this.  (My current casting rod is a bass pro  graphite RT1)

Ugly Stik® announces the new Ugly Stik Carbon rod, the lightest Ugly Stik ever. The rods feature a new carbon technology crafted of 100 percent 24-ton graphite

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Stumpy Meadows 11/10/19
« on: November 07, 2019, 09:04:25 AM »
I have the green light for getting otw on Sunday.  I'm looking for a spot to get into some browns and bows in a "quiet" lake/reservoir.  Has anyone been to stumpy lately and have any words of advice?  I've never been.  I'm in Roseville so if there are better places to go that are similar or closer....thanks

Had a little luck at a small pond in Newcastle

Newbie advice needed :smt010

I'm looking to respool my baitcaster (rod is a MH 7ft) and my spinning reel (Size 30 and rod is a M 6.6).  I fish in freshwater.

Am I better off spooling both with flouro as I am usually fishing lakes and not throwing into heavy cover or should I go one with braid , both with braid? tie a flouro leader on the braid?  I typically use the spinning rod for my plastics and my baitcaster for my crankbaits.  I can't afford to buy more reels so they have to work as a multi-purpose set up. Any advice on brand, type etc as searching through the internet can be mind numbing to say the least.

Finally; I want to keep the cost to no more than $25 per spool if I go flouro.

hopefully someone doesn't mind giving their $0.02   :smt012

Finally, I will be otw and will get in some much needed fishing therapy both days.  Thinking Folsom or Natomas on one day as they are the closest but I will avoid Rattlesnake bar as I have been there done that and skunked it too many times.  Second day will be either Rollins, Fuller or further up (Donner?).  Anyone else heading to any of these places this weekend?  Or if you have been recently, how was the bite?  (not asking for your secret spots to fish, but if Folsom near Browns Ravine or Rollins is on in the morning, I will give it a go before the boat traffic takes over).  That way I can hit Natomas and Fuller in the afternoon where there is zero powerboat traffic.

and i'll have a report on Monday.  May also try to fly cast from my vibe if conditions allow

General Talk / Garage Rack for 11ft Kayak (need to buy not build)
« on: April 16, 2019, 04:56:55 PM »
I'm downsizing from a 4 car to a 2 car garage and will need to store my kayak on the wall of the garage.  A hoist will not work at the new home.  Does anyone know of a good low cost solution for a rack on the wall of a garage (I trust you all more than I trust the internet)

I've finally have time open to get otw.  Thinking of going out to Folsom (Rattlesnake Bar) or Nimbus on Saturday and Sunday driving to Englebright or Clementine or Rollins.
