It's getting harder and harder for me to load the kayaks on top of the rack. So I pull the plug and purchase a new kayak/boat that fit inside my Tacoma truck. Just received it today and really like it :smt007. Ordered the Minn Kota 50lb thrust and 100AH LiFePO4 battery and can't wait to take it out for a spin.

Some pictures of this "sexy" baby :smt003

Congrats on the new boat sailfish :smt006

Sweet kayak, looking forward to reading your review! I've considered this same hull and similar drive setup. I like the 4 flush mount rod holders behind the seat - would be easy to keep everything organized and easily in reach.

Will post a review later. I like the 360 degrees chair and very comfy seat.

And I thought you couldn't get any sexier, Sonny. Boy,was I wrong. Nice ride. Let's go kill some trout.

Thanks for the comments Alex :smt002 this baby fits inside my truck perfectly!

Are you going to be using this kayak tomorrow at Monterey Bay?

No. Still waiting for the trolling motor and battery also need to "dress-up" this baby :smt003
-
Also need to buy a longer paddle, maybe 260cm since it's wider.
-
I've been looking at the same boat. I look forward to your review.
Where did you buy yours?

After extensive research, I bought it at West Marine during the Black Friday sale. Got it for $1077 out-the-door. Free shipping.

Good price!

interesting... so cute... :smt081

Y trolling motor arrived this morning. Hopefully the 100AH LiFe will be here soon!
-
I have a Minkota 50 for a long time now and have never tried it. What battery are you using with your new setup? Think it would be fun to troll for trout with this thing on my AI
-
Right on! Almost on the water!

Minn Kota Endura C2-50. Waiting for the Dr.Prepare 100AH LiFePO4 battery.

Half the cost of dakota's 100ah, that is pretty tempting.

Ordered it during Cyber Monday and only paid $360.99 free shipping.

Just received the battery. Will install it tomorrow and work on the wiring. Hopefully will complete everything this week and take my new kayak out for a spin soon.
-
The name is gold :smt005

Done with mounting the battery and trolling motor power wiring. Having issues with missing nut & bolt plus swivel chair mounting holes not lign up!
-
Motor wiring...
-
Just completed fish finder and transducer installation. Also tidy up the cables & wiring. Can't wait to test ride it.
-
Looking good! Did you resolve the seat mounting issues?
I'm looking forward to your test run report.

Yes. I drilled the misaligned hole and used another set of nut & bolt.
-
Looking very tidy!
-
Great looking setup, and you supplied a shopping list and setup guide.....
-
Yeah that really came out looking good Sonny! Hope to see it overloaded with giant halibut soon :smt003
-
Thanks for the kind words guys.
-
I plan to test ride it tomorrow. Will let you guys know how it goes...

Right on, looking forward to reading about it!

Took the new yak out for a spin today. Very stable and comfortable ride. Really love the 360 swivel chair. Tried paddle and not too bad for speed but not tracking well maybe I need to modify the trolling motor to add a "bullnose" rudder.
-
My friend sent me some pictures while we out there.
-
Nice! Looks great on the water!
-
Looks great Sonny!
Wx is horrible today, you got perfect timing
-
Added the DIY rudder to trolling motor to improve tracking. Will see if it will help.
-
Looking good!
-
When I get my battery I'll race you in my AI Sonny! :smt044
-
Made some modifications on my new kayak while recovering from the flu. Add a rod holder and voltage meter for monitor the battery status. What else should I add? :smt003
-
Hi Sonny, that's a cool rig, how much does it weigh fully loaded like you have it?
And does it kill your back transporting/loading/launching?

Around 130lb for now:
75 for kayak
28 for trolling motor
27 for battery
The kayak capacity is 450lbs
-
Working on the PWM modification. Tested the controller and it's working great.
-
Looks Great Sonny
Lets Race sometime this spring :smt003
Maybe slalom through the mooring bouys :smt044
-
Is the PWM to regulate voltage or something for the motor? I heard a few times that some batteries don't work with trolling motors, but wasn't sure what the limiting factor is.

True PWM doesn't regulate voltage but use a 555 timer chip to regulate the on/off cycles. This will give us infinite speed control and increase battery usage time.
-
Here is a simple diagram of a PWM using the 555 timer chip...
-
Aaahhh OK, I missed that in your last update.
-
Took the kayak out for a test ride after the PWM modification. Trolled from 8am to 2pm and my battery still has 50% left. Caught a few Jumbo Jacksmells but no Halibut love.
-
Sounds awesome! You can tow me in anytime Sonny! :smt044
-
Right on! What is your cruising/trolling speed? Did the PWM make a difference in battery life? I will probably add a trolling motor to a tandem Perception this summer, just to make trips with my son a little easier for both of us - you posted some good info here to help get set up!

I was trolling around 2mph most of the time and about 3.5mph moving between spots. Top speed is around 5 - 7 mph depending on tide, wave, and wind direction. Before the PWM modification I only got 25% of battery juice left after 5 hours of trolling.

That's awesome - very worth while modification!
Good speeds too, would be great for all the trolling I do. Thanks for the info!

Since the new 50 Fathom depth rule later this year, I upgrading my kayak from trolling motor to Suzuki 2.5HP outboard to help me getting to fishing ground faster. Hope this works out.
-
And the Sidekicks kayak cart for quick launch since it's on sale for Father's day :smt002

Very cool. I'll be interesting to see how fast you can (comfortably) go with that setup...
-
Sweet! That's a nice looking outboard! Definitely looking forward to your reports!
