Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Muir to Stinson
« on: July 26, 2005, 11:25:52 AM »
Jeremy - we talked in the parking lot. I didn't have much better luck further north - I went up to Stinson and about halfway out to Dux but turned back because the wind was picking up and was forecast to get stronger.

I hooked up a horse off of Pelican Rock that shook on the second time to the boat, then hooked up as soon as I dropped in again but that one came up a nice ling instead of salmon - then no more hits for the rest of the day despite alot of bait breaking the surface. The boats mostly had zip but a few had 4-5 fish I think mostly from outside the buoy. Next trip I'm going out there fog wind swell or whatever.

I also saw what I'm pretty sure was a shark just below Stinson which at first I thought was a dolphin until I realized it was kicking a tail side to side. That's only my second sighting in over thirty years on the water and both were up that way. First one was right there just outside of Muir.

nice to meet you - Paul

Hana Pa'a you probably already heard the salmon are in your neighborhood - I went to check it out yesterday and did a short afternoon troll for a couple 5lb barbecuers a mile or two out from Mavericks. A lot of dinks and a hell of a lot of jellies but good for anybody who likes to mooch. Feathered fish finders were everywhere but fish are scattered all over the place, mostly small but there should be some size mixed in there too.

Anyway it looks like the schools are bumping the coast from HMB upwards so it ought to be good toward Pedro.

Launched at SC harbor this morning and went up to 3 Trees(36.55/122.04) thinking I'd troll down to Soquel Hole with the wind and swell at my back - not meant to be - at 36.53/122.00 it wasn't looking practical so I grunted my way back in to avoid landing at Moss.

Farmed one nice plug between those #'s and landed a shortie, both over 150' of water and then nothing to show after that but a good appetite.

It was pretty much a rodeo up there, only saw Wild Wave and commercials working hard for their money. I know boats did well at SoqHole but I turned in a mile or so short of it.

People at the harbor said it'd been pretty nice offshore the past few days - I'm going to guess that conditions are probably better down Moss way right now in case you're thinking about hitting the hot SC bite. Fish are there but it was a lot of work getting to and staying over the 150' line and then a lot more getting in.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Coastside #'s

Also Frank Mocerino posted this for Moss: "47/51 area..190-210' of water..80' OTW"

I think that would be about 4 miles wsw of Moss - looking very good and eatin a hole in my gut as I'm looking at tues or wed at the earliest

Some interesting #'s posted on Coastside last night 28/41 - I'd be willing to bet a shot straight out from either LindaMar or HMB would cross paths with a nice school or two. To add to the intrigue there are some reports of different catches out there - horse mackerel and bonita.

Also some fish caught straight out and a bit south of ML but that seems sketchier.

It'd be interesting to know where most of the commercial boats will be. I'm grounded til next week which is enough to make a person edgy - should've had alot of good fish by this time of year.

good luck I envy anyone who can get out this week-end

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Pedro
« on: June 29, 2005, 06:14:51 PM »
Just big enough to not get a fine. It was shaker city and the one that lost the eyeball was probably about a 5 lb fish and that would have been the biggest of the lot.

At least the signs are there - that's sort of what I went for. And there are probably some decent fish scattered around. I might be heading out at Pigeon Point next.

p.s. the break at LindaMar was pretty decent and I made a wide turn around the point - the break was popping up pretty far out at both points and the swell south of Pedro was rolling in at times 10-12 ft otherwise it would have been nice to look around in there.

Good luck gotta start the barbecue

I followed the fine feathered fish finders to 3/4 miles off of Pedro and south a bit. There's definitely a bite through there but lots of shakers.

I fished straight fbr behind 2 1/2 lbs and shallow - 25-30 ft was where they seemed tobe hitting.

Hardly worth the paddle but enough to fight off the hex and it looks like some of those schools ought to be moving in after the bait pretty soon if the commercials don't wreak too much havoc first.

Originally thought I'd go to Monterey then bagged that in favor of relaxation but then this morning Joel's post from yesterday made me curious and restless. I was surprised there was no one else out that way, one small boat with 4 or 5 guys fishing near Montara.

good luck

If anyone catches a one-eyed salmon - first hook-up I farmed after a nice fight and retrieved one eyeball. By the size of the eye probably about a 5lb fish.

Thanks for that report - please keep me in mind when you paddle out off HMB for salmon - I'm still looking for my first one  :smt011

Hope to see those whale pics :smt001

The pics aren't digital but if they're decent I'll have them put on cd.

Keep an eye on Muir/Dux the signs are looking good if we can get the right weather.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Moss bite

I planned to head down that way yesterday but reports have been spotty so I made the 5 a.m. change of plans and headed north to Muir/Dux instead. From Coastside posts it looks like offshore from HMB is still the best bet.

Weather was less than optimal on the northside - I clocked only 15 miles for 8+ hours of solid grunt paddling but managed to land one legal fish and farmed some shakers and one good fish. It was pretty much a rollercoaster ride.

I followed a couple of whales(humpbacks or blue whales?)for about an hour and and managed to get a few snapshots. The waterproof disposable cameras aren't bad.

Still might be an offshore run from HMB in the cards but I'm not doing it unless it's solidly good weather. Sounds like it was nice out there yesterday but it's 10-12 miles s/w to the fish and I had my doubts about possibility of afternoon winds. I thought weather would be decent at Muir/Dux but my gut instincts were wrong.

good luck

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Surf stripers
« on: May 13, 2005, 06:11:30 PM »
Hey Chuck -

That's me on the above post. The stripers are looking pretty tempting - I might even forgo a salmon trip for it and scout the local inshore instead. It'd be all for the sake of give-away fish but being on the back of the surf ramps up the excitement factor and sometimes the salmon are mixed in with the general chaos.

Unfortunately nothing is happening for me til next week.

See you out there

1496
I must've posted wrong numbers - the salmon I got was at 37.27.66 and 122.35.55 - more like 6-7 miles out.

Probably see you out there, not sure when I'm going out but might be trying for the stripers on back of the surf - haven't done that for almost 15 years.

ChuckE

nice to meet you guys - I wound up looking for the boats and gave up about 6-7 miles out and figured out later that I should have been going sw about 2 miles rather than west and north. Gotta get some binocs

I picked up one 9lb female on the way in at 37.37.5/122.355 and then nothing for the entire troll in > fbr behind flasher at 45pulls on a 2 1/2 lb ball - probably should've mooched but time was running short. Looks like things are just still pretty scattered

p.s. you guys should put some serious flotation in that boat
