Thinking of hitting Rockaway tomorrow early am.  Conditions will have a WNW swell at 2.5' every 10 sec and wind at 5mph SSW.  Looks like the conditions will be manageable in the am to pm. Will be staying somewhat close to rocky cliff to try to get a keeper ling or cabby.  Anyone else going or want to meet?  TIA!

I'm planning to go out at Linda Mar to be closer to my favorite spot. Any chance you want to launch there? If not, I'll be on channel 69.

Conditions do look decent at Rockaway. I wish I could join ya but I’m working early. The beach could be gone at LM tomorrow by the afternoon.

What tide height does the beach disappear? It will be about 4.5 when I plan to land. I thought it would need to be a much higher tide to be a problem, but I haven't paid enough attention in the past to be sure.

I feel like I’m cutting it close around 2.5ft. Anyone else want to chime in?

I agree Scat Fish, I don't know the exact height the sand disappears but it might be in short supply at 4.5'.  I'll launch Rockaway tomorrow to avoid that potential LM crunch on my short session landing.
JP- Not a bad commute if we're headed to the same spot, the breeze will help back to the launch.
Also, Windy is saying that wind is 10 mph. I've found it's been more accurate in that area recently than other resources.

I mapped the distance from LM and Rockaway to my target spot and there's only about .2 mi difference so I decided to launch from Pacifica. See you tomorrow. Red outback.

It was a tough bite, but not too bad.  Winds were up pretty good (12 knots or so), so we tucked in the lee behind land and got into some consistent rockfish action.  I CPR'd a 24.75" lingcod, a 14" black, and a handful of medium and small rockfish.  Saw a few cabbies landed, a few lings, and plenty of rockfish.  Saw a spearo diving with a big cabbie and a big ling on his belt.  The weather wasn't conducive to fishing open water, so we were off the water around 11 and most of the rest of the kayak fleet trickled in over the next hour or so.

It was gorgeous at launch time, though:

Good ol' Ted, saving all them fishes all tender-like. Hope you rinsed with some Listerine after that!  :smt044

Tedski, Thanks for catching a pic of me right before I launched! It's good to see that my flag is very visible. The conditions were indeed great when we launched. I went out by Pedro and it quickly became quite sporty out there. 3+' waves in quick succession from the rear made for a less than relaxing pedal back. I came back close to the launch and fished with Rudy for awhile and managed to catch a nice blue ling hitchhiking on a rock fish. I also caught some rock crabs. However, there were so many dungies that it was a lot of work to pull up the traps. Bodes well for opening season though.

This was my first launch from Rockaway and, as many have mentioned before, it was indeed easier than LM. I have always gone to LM because I usually take my son and bring a trailer which is easy to park at the LM lot. Now that he is off to college, I'm going to stick to Rockaway. Thanks Scat fish and Nicky for steering me away from LM.

hey John...it was great meeting and fishing with you!  Congrats on the hitchhiker too.  Beautiful fish!  Like mentioned earlier, weather was great for a couple of hours in the am.  Then all hell breaks loose with winds blowing to 15+ mph and waves to 3.5'.  Was challenging but somewhat settled down a bit.  Still managed 3 rockfish for dinner and missed a ton of takedowns and bites.  Look forward to fishing Rockaway again when the conditions are favorable.
