Hi all - I have a 20 ft CC boat with a Simrad Go7 FF. I recently bought a Hobie and was thinking the best would be to just switch the FF btw the boat and hobie depending which one I am using. So a few questions:

- Anyone else do this? Anything I'm missing outside of getting a new transducer, wires, etc?
- Does anyone use a Simrad Go7 on their yak? If so, what ram mount did you use and what transducer is best?

Thanks for any and all input!

also one important detail is that my yak is an older hobie revo (no transducer mount that come w/ the newer models)

Besides mounting hardware, either thru Hull or side for transducer...

Given i don't need downscan / sidescan, do folks have a link to a cheaper transducer  recthat is compatible w/ Go7 that would be able to mount on the inside of the yak? Ideally want to spend less than $150

Or does anyone have a rule of thumb to understand which transducers are compatible w/ Go7 (eg can I use a lowrance transducer or does it have to be Simrad)? Not finding a ton of helpful info via google searches.

U might want to check out the simrad website for the particular FF you have, and look for a compatible transducer.

I own a Raymarine Element 7.  Intially went with a BerlyPro transducer cover but everytime I did a surf launch sand would get in the transducer cover and mess up the readings. Ended with doing a water bath inside the hull. I used an old swimming kickboard and cut the shape of the transducer.  Applied Marine Goop to stick it to the hull. For extra protection, I put electrical putty around the foam to prevent any water leakage.  You will need to pour water on every trip. Decided not to go with an external mount.  Its best to get a 2nd transducer.

Water temp is a bit off but I dont care. Sonar and downscan works fine. I dont use 3D.

Just a note on temperatures with a water bath.  I took along an old mercury bulb thermometer for a several trips and found the temperature offset was always the same +/- a degree or two - for mine, the transducer read ~8 degrees warmer than the thermometer.  Gives me a pretty simple way to know the approximate surface water temperature.

Just stick your transducer on with duct seal compound/putty (link below). Super easy and you can remove it easily if necessary. I used Goop for my first couple of transducer mounts, but switched to this after reading about others' experience. I just make a pancake out of it sick it to the transducer and then press it hard onto the kayak. I put a bit more over the top of the transducer so it can't go anywhere. I transport my kayak upside down and it doesn't come off even after bouncing on my trailer for hours.
