I had a great white shark check out a ling cod I was bleeding on the stringer. I recommend an insulated kill bag with ice or frozen water bottles if you are going to be on the water for very long.

Speaking of great whites. Geez. How often have you come into contact with gws(s) on the water?

Great sad post...

Whoa! First, Iíll be using a kill bag. Second, Iíll make sure nothing is showing. Third, I would lose it if a bull sea lion mounted my kayak. Cardiac arrest might be a part of the tale.  This was a crazy story. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks! And thanks for helping me create my account. That was one of those "it was making a sound until I took it to the mechanic!" moments.

Welcome to NCKA, m_y.

Rockfish and lingcod don't close until the end of the year - give yourself a chance!   :smt001

I need to upgrade to a sit on top before I hit the rockfish or lings. I'm assuming I'll have to go into open ocean and my sit inside has barely kept me safe when I've gone out on Tomales and SF Bay. I've been eyeing the Hobie Mirage. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Quick question - has anyone every had a shark, seal, or sea lion pull your catch off of your game clip? I just started Kayak fishing this summer and used a game clip on the few trips I took without problems, but I am paranoid.  Seems like trailing blood in the bay and ocean would be a bad idea.

My vote - Hobie.

I'm very new to the sport so I won't be much help, but I def. want to know when this book is published. I basically learned how to fish for halibut in Tomales by reading TLA.

Hi fellow kayak anglers! I'm excited to join this forum. I found this community just at the season's end. Better late than never.

I just started the kayak angling journey this summer. I caught my first flatty on Tomales Bay this summer. It was awesome, needless to say. I am using a sit in kayak right now, but I will trade up to a sit on top Hobie drive based yak this winter.

I haven't had the opportunity to target rockfish or lingcod from a kayak. Next on the list.  Hoping to fill up the freezer in the spring and summer next year.

Speaking of next season, I'll be going out most weekends and will be looking for fellow yakers to join. I live in Marin and am happy to hit the water early in the morning on most Fridays and Saturdays.

Looking forward to meeting every one. Tight lines and enjoy the rest of the season.

Feel free to contact me if you're headed out in Marin or SF if you're headed out and you need a partner.
