I just read this....

Oyster Pt. Butt and Striper
Mon May 08 2006 07:09 PM
Got a late start from Oyster Pt. this morning. Lots of wind.Started trolling from Brisbane Marina north where the San Bruno Mountains block the wind. No butts for 2 hours of trolling. About 2 hours into the out going tide we picked up a 7 lb striper near Candlestick . Had 2 more hits .
Started trolling again for butts . The wind was up all over the bay. Finally landed a 8 lb butt in 19 feet of dirty water . Used flashers with bait, and flashers with hoochies.
Bait nailed the fish. Heard of 3 other butts caught. Good luck, Dan Gracia

Oyster Pt. Halibut Mon.
May 08 2006 04:58 PM
Met Michael Ryan at Coyote Point before sun-up. It was already blowing 15. Decided to see if Oyster Pt. was fishable(that really should be a recognized word) in my little 14 footer. It was. Bumpy just outside the harbor but it flattened to glass toward Candlestick Pier. Good halibut tide today. Not much movement. Water clarity was not too good on the incoming and downright terrible rust color on the outgo. Trolled dead anchovies w/dodger off of a 3-way swivel(Terry Lewis tutorial set-up). Trolled heading into the current. All 3 fish came on the 18 foot depth contour at about 1 knot. I used 20 lb. spectra and an 8 oz. torpedo weight. 2 keepers of 6 pounds or so and 1 shaker. Marked quite a bit of bait in the 20-21 foot contour but the fish came @18, where little bait showed. Pretty amazing that we could fish comfortably in a 14 foot boat when there were high wind warnings on the San Mateo bridge. Wind direction is the key on the bay. Good day with a good friend.---------Craig Wood (Wildwood)

Great report, Ive never been there and was wondering about the ins and outs of fishing there and planning on hitting the turny. Did you use a throw net to bake bait? Ben

HAHA! I just logged in to post about those reports.

There were also quite a few more going back to Friday.

Live shiners are the bait of choice for halibut and stripers around Oyster Point.   They're available at the Oyster Point Bait & Tackle Shop.  Since they're sponsoring our derby and saving us over $250 for permit fees and liability insurance, I think we should make it a point to buy our bait & tackle there.

Shiners are $1.50 each (6 minimum).  If you want less, split it with a buddy.

Anyways... who the heck wants to spend time making bait during the derby when you could be actually fishing.

And are they going to have enough bait for all of us and the other boats that will be out there?

It sounds like things are going to heat up here the next few days.  My guess is we might see the best Halibut weekend of the year to date on Saturday!! Watch out for a lot of PB's as well.

Erik, they normally open at 6am, but Mike will plan to be at his shop earlier for our derby.

I will have a print out of everyone that has paid via paypal with me. No need to register but you might want to check with me to make sure I have your stuff. Sometimes it gets confusing translating between realnames and nicknames. I will be in my red toyota 4runner sitting on the back tailgate.

You can walk from the windsurfer launch to the bait shop.

:smt012 I know of the benefits of the DRIFT SHOOT/ANCHOR but does anyone deploy this tactic. If the wind is down its not really needed but could be helpful in slowing down your drift or is the trolled shinner the method of choice? :secret
