Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Folsom 10/23/05

Sunday 10/23/05: Arrived 7:30am, off the lake at noon.

Folsom was a bust for me this morning. I launched from the Hobie Ramp at BR and paddled up to the EDH pump station.
I trolled around and had a couple hits, but didn't catch anything.

It was a pleasant morning on the lake. I enjoyed chatting with some of the other fisherman. Also watched a group of deer along the bank. One of these days I'll catch a salmon in Folsom!

Sales notice on the door: Rapala, buy 3 get 1 free.
I picked up 4 XRaps. :smt001

I need to get on their mail list. Never see the sales except when I'm walking in.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Kayak trailer
« on: October 17, 2005, 09:31:09 PM »
My father in law is a very handy guy. Likes to plan projects, weld and create things. I turned my old trailer over to him, told him that he could do whatever he thought would work best.

He did a great job on my old, cheap  trailer.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Folsom was a bust
« on: October 16, 2005, 06:53:07 PM »
A bust for me that is. On the water at 7:40am, off at noon. Left the Hobie ramp at Browns Ravine and trolled my way over to dike 8. I tried various lures, no hits. Snagged and lost a new deep six. Trolled  back to BR, made a stop then headed north east. I tried everything I had, nothing.

At the ramp I asked another person if he had better luck. He fished up the south fork and got a quick salmon limit. C&R'd a bunch more. Claimed to be trolling around 5 feet deep. I didn't ask what he was using.

Otherwise, it was a nice day on the lake. The wind continued to die down as the morning progressed. Very few boats, one skier and a guy fishing from the one jet ski I saw. The ramp had two trailers when I arrived and maybe 6 or 8 when I left. My new trailer worked great. Nice for a short guy like me.

Kayaks / Where to go for the first time on the coast, Oct 8 & 9?
« on: September 26, 2005, 08:47:51 PM »
OK... I've got the kayaks and gear pretty much together. Now I want to rock/ling cod fish. I'll be taking my son and possibly my daughters bf.
I'm open for Monterey to Bodega. We are planning for Oct 8&9.

I have two issues:
1. Easy, safe access to the water. I would rather not do any surf rolling the first time out.

2. Taking the wife, so we can't camp. Need an area with hotel options.

Also, we would be very happy to tag along with others if you are heading out.

Rancho Seco Lake 8/20/05

I know this is small fish compaired to your big coastal catches.
But my son and I had fun, so I'm going to tell you about it.

My son and I were on the water around 7:30am, off at 11:45am.

I didn't catch any fish today. Had a few hits and tugs on my senkos.

My son caught his first bass ever. Later in the morning he caught another. I think he was using a dark senko with red flakes. I'm glad he out fished the old man. Made it a great day. :smt001
