Long shot but I know there are several pinoys and HAC's that regularly go to southeast asia.  I plan to be in the Philippines from Feb - Mar 2015 and plan to fish/dive siquijor island.  If anyone is interested let me know and we could schedule it.  I will be there for 2 months so my schedule can be flexible.  I intend to fish/dive for at least 5-7 days.  I made contact with Vamforce through the spearboard forum.  He has people that can guide us fishing as well as spearfishing dive buddies.  If you are interested let me know which week you can make it.

Hi lapulapu, You will definitely progress deep diving cause water is very comfortable, will be in a range of 26-29C.
Our guys will look after and would act as spearfishing guides and basic safety buddies. We have weights and few rail guns, in 110-130 range. But it's always great to have your own gears. We also have weights.
As for the accommodation, there are many motels and resorts, in a price range of $12-70.

Last time, during competition, we book the whole motel. The room was $15. Very basic, but you only sleep there. 5 min boat ride to a very productive reef with cutas.

There are also 3* resorts. Google Coco Grove Beach Resort, they have a dive centre.

Half Moon Bay fishing and crabbing weekend with my nephew Michael (San Miguel), Jon (Fiver) and Glen (G-Whiz).  Weather was perfect and crabs are still plentiful.  Go get them guys before the commies rake them up.

General Talk / Best Crab Bait and where to get them cheap.
« on: November 01, 2013, 11:02:51 AM »
Okay, I guess we made fish soup out of all the fish heads that I had in my freezer.   Where can I get some cheap or free bait for crabbing close to HMB?  Which bait is best to use?  I know squid works but I would rather eat them than waste them for bait.

My plan was to fish for at least 5 days in the island of Siargao, Philippines.  That did not happen.  Truly disappointed because it rained like hell every morning except on Wednesday.  Rented a bankero (fisherman) and his boat for 2000 pesos (about) 50 dollars.  Includes fresh bait (flying fish).  Trolled all day and came up with only barracudas that I was not to fond to eat because of the possible toxin it may have.  Lot's of small different types of tropical fish (from .5-1)lbs. but I really wanted to catch a sailfish, marlin or tuna.  I was told that those are more plentiful late april and in may.  It also is when the dry season starts.  I got to test my new gopro anyways and so I added the youtube link to it.  The boring fishing action comes near the end.  Watch it in HD if your bandwidth can take it.  I plan to go back again next year around late april to may (2 weeks of fishing this time).  Anyone want to come along?

General Talk / Fishing at Stillwater Cove Pier
« on: February 19, 2013, 06:20:01 PM »
Anyone know if we are allowed to fish from the pier at Stillwater cove?  Do you need to have a fishing license?  I have a guest who is just here temporarily.

Kayak Sailing / AI Hall of Shame - Lessons Learned
« on: January 28, 2013, 02:32:37 PM »
I’m reporting my mishap and my induction into the AI Hall of Shame because that even though we all try to take the necessary precautions, once in a while we can underestimate our abilities, our gear and the rough environment we put ourselves into.

First and foremost I just want to thank my buddy Glen (G-Whiz) for getting me the help and the power boat dudes (they are not all bad like some people might think) that pulled me in close to shore.  Also, thanks to Chris and a lady (sorry could not remember her name) that helped pushed my AI and me all the way to the shore after I started cramping again trying to peddle in through that heavy wind.

Lessons learned:
1.   Do not take your AI out with both amas (outriggers) and no sail when the wind is blowing close to 25 knots and a rather fast outgoing tide coming out of the channel at Doran Beach.
2.   Register your AI so you could use your sail even though the coast guard is just yards away watching you.
3.   Make sure to warm up your leg muscles by stretching and running in place before going out.
4.   Drink a lot of OJ, V8 and carry some Gatorade.  Which I usually do but forgot to do it this time.
