CA Regulations / Re: Steelhead reg clarification

The mad is notorious for misclips. Personally I release all the fish I catch like that. Not worth leaving it up to the discretion of the warden.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Humboldt Bay North Jetty
« on: June 03, 2016, 08:10:50 AM »
I fish the north jetty quite a bit and there's two rigs I usually use. Either a drop shot with a Texas rigged plastic or a traditional Texas rig with anywhere from a 1/2 oz to 1 1/2 oz depending on the conditions but usually 1/2 or 3/4 oz is the ticket. The key is rigging your baits weedless with a 3/0 to 5/0 wide gap hook because any exposed hook and you're going to snag. I use the dropshot for fishing further out and the Texas rig for poking around at my feet and for fishing Swimbaits. Change up the weights because there is usually a sweet spot where you can reach the bottom but not get hung up but that all changes day to day with the conditions. Sometimes just a 1/4 oz difference can make a huge change. Also a longer rod 9 ft + will help pop out the deep snags. Pm me if you have any other questions about the jetty

General Fishing Tips / Re: How do I fish this bass?
« on: February 29, 2016, 06:46:02 AM »
I used to fish shadow cliffs a lot and what those bass are doing is waiting for trout. They'll take trout right off someone's someone's line as they reel it in. the water there is pretty clear and just about everybody sees those fish and drops something on their heads making them ignore pretty much all regular tackle. They're looking for big meals to fuel them up for the spawn

This was my first season ocean salmon fishing too and I had no clue what I was doing but a deep six with a 2 foot leader to a chrome dodger with another ~ 3-4 foot leader to an RSK got chewed every trip

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Klamath or Bust !!

Hit the mouth today for my first time around 1:30. It was pretty packed so I found a spot on the spit closer to the river where I could have a little elbow room. Fished for an hour and picked up a nice 20 lber. That place is nuts with all the people and sea lions. They're hitting green beads  :smt002

General Fishing Tips / Re: Metal for bottom

I catch more/better rockfish on my shrimpfly when I use a jig or swimbait below a shrimpfly as apposed to just two shrimp flies. I think it helps draw some attention

Went out around 6:30 this morning. Lots of bait around but I only had an hour and a half to fish. Ended up with one fat coho about 8 or 10 lbs

General Fishing Tips / Re: Kelp fly repellent

Trinidad is getting pretty bad. Cover up and get in that meditated state. Or maybe medicated state, depending..... :smt001

Wind and catching lots of fish helps, but I can only take it so long.

Yes the fish definitely help take your mind off things. If I hadn't of been sitting on top of a nice school of blacks I would have been out of there much sooner. The meditated state doesn't work so well for me maybe the medicated state will  :smt044

As far as staying away from flat iron goes I was even covered in flies right in front of the head but there was also almost no wind that day too

Soap and hot water keeps the flies off.....#takeabath  :smt044

Showers just cut into fishing time :smt002

There was a simple solution. Every time we caught a fish and my hands were slimmed I made sure to wipe them on PolePole...

Haha that's probably exactly how I look out there   :smt044

Ok so it looks like covering up is going to be the best way. Thanks guys those things drive me nuts. No matter how many you swat it's never enough  :smt013
