Hello!

After purchasing my Hobie I was going through the entire kayak to make sure everything was good and sound being that it was a demo model. When I had gotten to checking the steering and rudder control one of the lines actually snapped. Leaving me with control on one side only.

Does anyone have a recommendation as to where I could get this repaired? Or possibly purchase the items necessary to repair it myself as a last resort? I'm new to Hobie's and not sure how much I trust myself to try and fully fix the whole mechanism. I'd much rather have somebody more knowledgeable look at it.

Check with CCK in Oakland. You may still be able to get a warranty done if you let them know.

I dont think the demos are warrantied. If its just the cable its easy fix.

Where did it snap?  If it's at the rudder, easy fix to replace it yourself.  However I'd press your dealer, since they said it was only used one time.

Talk about rudder lines on hobies
http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=98151.0

The Hobie stuff online
https://westcoastsailing.net/hobie-kayak-control-line-1000lb/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMImui805zH-gIVKiCtBh3L0QjbEAQYAiABEgLmJ_D_BwE

Very easy to do yourself. There are 4 total sections of line, 2 for each side. You need to pop off the Hobie sticker on the handle to get to the bolt underneath. Once the rudder control is removed you can replace the lines. The rudder line is very soft, so I used some 20 mono that I ran through the rudder line tube and then tied to the rudder line and pulled it back through.

I replaced the entire rudder system on a Hobie classic a few years back. It’s actually not that hard. Here’s the link for the replacement rudder lines I used.

Pretty sure it's covered being that your kayak is 2021 even if it was a demo.
Check with where you bought it from first and they will probably refer you to a local dealer if they don't have any in house repair service.

Hobie warrants demo kayaks the same as they do all other kayaks.
