Recipes / Re: Jerky
« on: September 26, 2016, 03:49:12 PM »
That's great, congratulations!

I use a few cure/seasoning kits when I make my venison jerky, namely Hi Moutain Seasonings Hunters Blend or Bourbon BBQ Blend and they tend to do well.  I would be lost without the kits as far a curing goes.  The kits make it pretty simple.  After I have rubbed on the cure/seasoning I let sit in my fridge for at least 24 hours and then I smoke it using either apple, maple, or Jack Daniels woodchips.  If I am using applewood I like to also add some apple juice to the drip/water pan.  I smoke it until it looks right and the internal temperatures are right, usually it takes about 2.5-3 hours.

I'm not sure on the process if you are using a dehydrator though.  Hope that helps.

That slough you fish gets little to no pressure cause it sucks.

I don't just fish one spot all the time but I'm guessing that you are talking about the slough along Holland Tract road?  I've fished there several times and gotten into decent fish.  The middle is pretty shallow that's for sure.  The Oxbow on the other side of the bridge typically holds nice fish.  I haven't fished that area for some time now but I was doing pretty good there May-July.

Hennessey is a fun place to fish.  Did you work the Tules?

What is the golden rule as far as going to a crowded, popular place like the delta and keeping enough space between myself and other anglers?  Some people don't even want you on the same general area for fear of you taking their fish, others don't mind sharing the water so much.  So what's considered cool and what would be stepping over the line? Do you ask other kayakers if it's cool to fish right by them?  Thanks!!!

The Delta isn't really that crowded.  The Bass Boats all launch and go miles away from the launch points generally.  I fish the Delta all the time and I've only come across 5 other Kayak anglers that I wasn't fishing with all summer.  I typically just say hey and paddle to a different spot.  Generally, boats will avoid you if they see you.  The recreational boating scene should be a little slower now too.  Where are you launching?

I was reading through the forums as a guest a few days ago and I came across this post and realized, hey that's me.  So I figured I would register and join the conversation as well as make a follow-up video discussing what I have learned from that experiance with the guy on the bank.

First off, I recognize that it was pretty douchey of me to keep fishing in that area.  I was pissed during the situation but I should have just left the area.  I never intended to interact with the guy on the bank, as you might notice in the follow-up video, he just sort of popped up.  At that point I should have turned around but I didn't.  You live and you learn.

I try to make entertaining and informative videos on my channel and I try to be a good ambassador of the outdoors and Kayak Fishing specifically.  I think I failed in the first video but I think that there is something to learn from it.  If you have a minute take a look at the follow-up.  Thanks!   ~Chris

Hello, I'm new as a registered user but have visited the forum several times.  I'm excited to get involved in the conversation.

I live near the Delta and spend several days a week on the water fishing.  I mostly fish the Delta for Bass and the Sierra Lakes for Trout.  Born and Raised in the Pacific Northwest, I spent a ton of time Lake, River, and Stream fishing for Trout and Salmon.  My lifelong favorite fishing spot is the St. Joe River in Idaho, targeting those amazing Wild Cutthroats.

I paddle a Wilderness Systems Ride 115x.  It's been a good starter yak.
