Fake Hobie mirage drive chains...

I finally got these chains today. Some time ago, they shipped from Singapore, and eventually the tracking said they were out for delivery, but they were never delivered. Instead, they ended up being returned to Singapore. The seller contacted me, and then re-shipped them to my office address, which is where they arrived today. I’m impressed that the seller re-shipped (at no cost to me), instead of just cancelling the order.

As far as quality goes, they look to be first-rate. In fact, assuming they are a comparable grade is stainless, the cable and connectors are, if anything, a slight upgrade from standard Hobie. I’ll put them on my main Mirage drive, give them a workout, and report back.

It looks like they also sell other replacement parts at 1/2 or less of the Hobie price. I might get their turbo fins and masts…

Sweet.  So these fit on your V2/GT drive?

They're not exactly half price, as they cost $40 vs $64 for the Hobie brand,

But, still a decent savings: With shippuing and tax, for a pair, the Singaporean version is $96.88 vs $139.66 for the official Hobie brand.

I just installed 1 chain/cable. It is ever-so-slightly shorter than the standard Hobie version, but it fits. The cable is thicker and stiffer, so it’s a bit more effort to install. The only real annoyance is that it’s got metric threading, so we can’t use  1/4 nuts 😞. It does come with nuts, but I’ll definitely need to pick up some spares, as they are easily lost.

Should we cover that bit of exposed chain w epoxy or something? That's where mine are rusting and I've seen pictures of failures there.

The threads are M6 1.0, and my local hardware store doesn’t seem to have that size in stainless nylock nuts—might have to order some online…

The part where the cable is exposed is the weak link. I don’t think epoxy will work, as it flexes, but Goop might be worth a try.
