Title says it. Anyone heading out to Fort Ross or Timber Cove on Friday July 20 (Friday)?

Having a hard time waiting until the last Saturday in April. Going to head down to the Middle Owens river on Sunday. Not expecting to see many fishermen, seems to be a strenuous hike down into the gorge.  Feel free to drop a message if your interested. I've never fished here before so I don't have any insight to offer other than what I've read online. Smallish Brown Trout who are not very picky about what floats by, flows above 70 CFS.

Anyone fishing the Somoma coast this coming Saturday, or is everyone going up to Albion for the weekend?

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / 12/20 Donner Lake RPT
« on: December 21, 2015, 03:03:10 PM »
Finally broke the dry streak.

Launched out of the northwest corner of the lake at 7:30 with no wind or snow. Paddled to the south shore and began the hunt down to the east end. Marked a fish here and there on the fish finder and dropped the jig onto them only occasionally because I knew that they were likely moving and it takes a long time to drop 1/4 oz of lead down 80 ft.  Bald eagle was eating a fish on the shore, flew away when I tried to get closer.

Made it to "The Cove" at the far end off the lake.  The Cove has a couple steep drop offs where I've seen Mackinaw stacked up before. Nobody was home that day. The 15 mph (and much heavier gusts) westerly wind and snow began to pick up after a couple of hours, making it difficult to jig vertically. Headed to the shelter of the north shore.

Dropped my heavier trolling gear and trolled a Cleo about 55ft down in 60 - 100 feet of water.  Started marking large schools of Kokanee. Switched up to a 1/8 oz Kastmaster and dropped down to 60 ft and vertically jigged with my right arm while paddling against the wind with my left arm. Was able to get one Kokanee to bite; didn't play the fish and all, just pulled it straight up to the surface. The little Kokanee was just under 10", but I didn't care because it was the first fish I had caught during the 3 trips i've made out in the past 5 weeks.  Tied the heavier 1/2 oz Cloe back on and tried jigging below the school of Kokanee to see if there was anything bigger hunting them.  No luck before the wind really picked up and made it impossible to maintain position.

On the road home at 1.

General Fishing Tips / Clear Lake Boat Launch and Live Bait
« on: December 21, 2015, 02:57:02 PM »
Where does everyone get their minnows before going to Clear Lake. Also, which boat launch is recommended?

Going to be dedicating some serious time OTW this month to grab my first Sturgeon. San Pablo Bay is going to be my spot the 12th. Launching from McNears at 8 I'll be anchored on the water 9-4 on CH69.

Five day trip to Donner.  Going to be fishing each morning, maybe some evenings. First time on the lake so I'll be trying to cover as much "ground" as I can over my 5 day stay.  Goal of this trip is to CnR some Mackinaw, CnR a few trout, and CnC a few Kokanee. I'll be on the pleasure channel if you find yourself on the water. I'll post one report on the 26th.

What are the Sonoma Coasters thinking about the weather this Sat/Sun. I'm talking Fort Ross, TC, Ocean Cove. I'm on the fence about it... Kinda phishing for an excuse to downplay the potential wind.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Ft Ross or TC 12/27

Any parties going out to either of these spots on Saturday?

11
Anyone up for bottom fishing TC tomorrow? I Was out there this morning, but no one was around so I went home. Conditions were good this morning, supposed to be better tomorrow.

If there aren't any responses I'll skip this weekend.

Staying the night at Timber Cove then heading over to Fort Ross just before grey light.  My preference is Sunday, based on the weather report, but Saturday doesn't look too bad either.  I want to venture south to Sunken Reef, or at the very least the structure just south of Fort Ross Reef.  Both spots look steep, rocky, and perfect for Lingcod.

let me know,

Andrew

General Fishing Tips / Midshipman live bait (not for leopards)
« on: September 17, 2014, 12:57:54 PM »
Has anyone tried fishing for RF, Ling, or Butts with midshipman?  Did you happen to hook into something else when targeting leopards?

Pretty easy source of live bait, would be nice to bring in some halibut with them.

Looking to head over to Fort Ross Cove early Sat Morning.  Company is welcome, and I'm flexible between Sat/Sun.

Check out some forecasts and let me know what you think.

Introductions / New member from Davis, Ca
« on: September 14, 2014, 06:53:04 PM »
I have been surf- and shore-fishing for years, but I am relatively new to kayak fishing.  After my first few kayak outings (to Fort Ross), it's going to be hard for me to justify going back to the surf.  Looking forward to exchanging/getting some good information from the available forums.
