CA Regulations / Re: Halibut changes… permanent?
« on: December 12, 2023, 09:01:39 AM »

two fish per day is plenty. Yearly qota is bad idea I think. Maybe reduce bag limits in the BAy but not open ocean. So many guys brailing the hot spots in bay, taking lots of fish that are barely legal.

Bushy

^ what he said. I'm on board.

Always thought this would be a neat project. I'm a fan of the Greenland style paddle.
It would make a great canvas for some woodburned decorations...

General Fishing Tips / Re: Hoop net replacement
« on: October 24, 2023, 09:14:57 AM »
I've done two hoop netting replacements using a replacement landing net. The big green ones they use on powerboats.
just have to match the hoop diameter and the net mouth then sew it on.

Hi Ben!

I think this is the first year I haven't fished BH even once.

Between the sharks, the B'ropes, and the bull kelp pee funnel invention, we had some good times up there back in the day.

At least the report states that more species-specific data are needed for quillbacks. If I were a CA resident, I would strongly recommend  the requirement for descending devices to be onboard and ready to use when bottomfishing. Require all rockfish caught beyond 180 ft that are not retained to be dropped back to depth using a descending device. Incorporating mandatory use of descending devices would reduce the modeled discard mortality rates, and more accurately reflect reality.

This seems to be a very practical requirement that would be a much easier sell than "no fishing allowed"
I rarely fish that deep, but have descended a few sad rockies. I would totally be on board for something like this.

Miss you too ya weirdo.
having a post session coors with you on the tailgate at Shelter and seeing an Osprey pluck a black rockfish from the ocean and then take it up into a treetop for breakfast is one of my fave NCKA memories. Epic times.

Was there Sunday on the beach, still felt sharky even on the shore....

does it ever not? LOL

glad the guy made it without physical injury.
If it were me though I'd have some serious PTSD from that swim. I can only imagine what was going through his head, yikes.
What I'm wondering is where was his buddy?

Nice Lingasaurus! They don't get much bigger than that round here!

Wanted To Buy / Re: Wanted:Old Tarpon 140
« on: August 16, 2023, 09:20:50 AM »
Tarpon 140 is pretty heavy and long.

The older models were indeed heavy for their size, due mostly to a generous plastic pour.
Makes the hull stiffer than any comparable plastic yak of the time, so a pleasure to paddle but tougher to load and portage.

I like the way you maximized the limited space in the back of your truck.

Up front too!  So maxxed - I barely fit in there.   :smt003

Good thing my crabbing spot is just 8 miles or so up 101 at King Salmon, California.

I knew I recognized that road. I love that seafood place at the end of it.

I'm not sure that I've EVER seen a Pinto ab outside of ID charts.
What a cool find!
