I'm looking for ways to transport my kayak on the RV without using a trailer. I'm considering the RecPro RV Kayak Rack Vertiyak Hitch Mount Standing Kayak Carrier but the recommondation is for 12 feet and under kayaks. The outback is 12'9"
Has anybody installed this hitch mount and successfully transported an outback or similar long kayak?
My RV does not have a ladder on the back and the only pull out is on the back but I can detach the kayak before I pull out, I do that when I have the bikes with me.
I can not fit the kayak inside the rig either.

So it would be vertically mounted on that rack?  I think it will work, but maybe add extra padding to help ensure that a rough ride won't cause damage to your hull.  Also, it may be tough to ride the kayak with the stern and rudder against the bottom of the rack, and the bow might not fit well.  You may have to modify or add hard pieces of foam to allow for a nice fit.

I haven't seen a rack like that before  - pretty cool and def solves that problem for me when we eventually get an RV.

Like Eric said, some modifications may be necessary. Also, what is the weight limit of that rack?

It holds up to 150lb so that would not be a problem. I guess I just have to get one and play around with it.

Nice, looking forward to a review once you've tried it out.

I think you should be fine as well . I run a similar extension with support, but only about 6 ft beyond the bed. I did add tail light extension for added safety and typically have running lights on. Maybe overkill but peace of mind

Measure your hitch height and make sure your yak won’t be too high once on board. I have seen a few of these around here but with 10 ft yaks. I know you said no ladder but I built a custom top rack for a guy up here years ago. Small trailer might be a better bet, could incorporate boxes to put the gear in and an additional rack to haul the bikes.

Edit: I see that’s a bumper mount so measure there although a frame mount hitch might sit lower as a bonus.

Hate to say it, but no way would I try what you are proposing at least not with a big outback.  Maybe some cheap costco kayak that weights very little.  This design looks to hold the kayak by the bow with some pool noodle to cushion it.  There is no way that the rack alone would make me feel safe.  I would at least have to have large straps that hold it tight to the RV and not rely on just being mounted to that rack.

I was assuming some straps from the rack to the RV also, even with a light kayak.  If any portion of it sticks above the roofline, its gonna get some pretty significant wind pushing against it.  I would also go hull towards the front of the vehicle, just to put the more aero side facing into the wind.

That rack style I think was developed for white water kayaks. WW kayaks are Shorter and a lot lighter

there is a Sprinter Van with two fishing kayaks in the back of his rig.  he is in Sonoma.  drive by his house daily.  looks legit.  cannot confirm if that is the exact mount, but his kayak are oriented just like that.  two of them side by side.

I ran across a thread on the board where someone had a setup similar to this, but waaaaay beefier and it was holding two outbacks.  But OP stopped posting, so didn't bother to update on my finding.

I'm with AlsHobie, but if you do try it, be sure to avoid the Can Operner Bridge...
