Fish are even bigger than last year. Maybe not New Melones grade, but they’re THICK with big shoulders this year. Round like footballs. Grade is 14-17”, and a few big 18’s mixed in but rare. They’re not at all concentrated, marks are even more scattered than last season. Thermocline at 20ft, temps 59F in AM and 65F at PM. Hard pattern to figure this year, early AM morning bite is best as my usual evening outings haven’t been as productive this season. Lots of copepods, but not in the gills thankfully. Fish are running 1.5+ lbs in a lot of cases and lots of fat in the fillets for this time of year. Looks to be the best season we’ve had in a decade, maybe more. Numbers aren’t as plentiful as years past, but what we trade in quantity we get in quality. They seem to even fight harden than the 17’s we were getting in June last year. Average size and weight definitely better than last year. Tight lines.
