IRWINDALE, Calif. —

A judge has ordered a plant that produces the popular Sriracha chili sauce to stop emitting annoying odors in a ruling that left some nearby residents worried about a possible loss of jobs at the factory.

Judge Robert H. O'Brien on Tuesday ruled in favor of the city of Irwindale, where Sriracha recently relocated, saying sauce maker Huy Fong Foods must stop any operations that could be causing the odors and make unspecified changes to mitigate them.

The company had no immediate comment, but a few neighbors interviewed Wednesday dismissed the complaints and worried that jobs might be lost if the plant is forced to close.

Lake Berryessa News
Reclamation Announces New Names for the Lake Berryessa Concession Areas

NAPA, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation announces the new names for five of Lake Berryessa’s seven concession-operated recreation areas. The new names are:

· Putah Canyon Recreation Area – formerly Putah Creek Resort and Chaparral Cove
· Monticello Shores Recreation Area – formerly Rancho Monticello Resort and Manzanita Canyon
· Berryessa Point Recreation Area – formerly Lake Berryessa Marina Resort and Blue Oaks
· Spanish Flat Recreation Area – formerly Spanish Flat Resort and Foothill Pines
· Steele Canyon Recreation Area – formerly Steele Park Resort and Lupine Shores.

The lake’s remaining concession-operated recreation areas, Markley Cove Resort and Pleasure Cove Marina, will retain their current names for the duration of their contract terms.

Since December 2012, when Reclamation terminated the former concessionaire’s long-term contract for the five concession-operated recreation areas for non-compliance, efforts have been underway to develop recreation services at the lake for 2013 and the long term. In an effort to ensure that the interests and perspectives of all major interest groups are identified, Reclamation has held a series of public meetings and formed the Lake Berryessa Community Forum, composed of ten Coordinating Team Members. A key concern has been the recreation areas’ names.

The new names, which were determined with input from the Coordinating Team Members and the public, are owned by Reclamation; however, future concessionaires may use these names in whole or in part to market or emphasize specific recreational services provided at these areas. Reclamation’s goal continues to be to provide safe and enjoyable recreation experiences for visitors to Lake Berryessa.

Lake Berryessa is managed by Reclamation’s Central California Area Office as part of the Solano Project. Additional information on Lake Berryessa, including a map with the new recreation area names, is available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/ccao/berryessa/index.html.

To be added to the Lake Berryessa email or mailing list, please contact Janet Sierzputowski at 916-978-5112 (TTY 916-978-5608) or jsierzputowski@usbr.gov.

Lake Berryessa News

Gary Howes just sent this in with the note: "An anonymous photographer parked at the Putah Creek bridge snapped this photo and sent it to me yesterday. So the rumor of an alligator in the lake is true!" Maybe the BOR planted the alligator there to discourage people from jumping off Jumping Rock. Should be a good tourist attraction.

General Talk / Bureau Terminates Lake Berryessa resorts contracts.
« on: December 08, 2012, 11:11:29 AM »
Just in: The Bureau of Reclamation locked Pensus out of their resorts last night, Friday, 12/7.

I am guessing that the free ramp is still open.

"Much of this issue is about the development and planning process,” Lucero said. “The contract has been in place for a couple of years now. The contractually agreed to schedule has not been met. We have been working with them to get them to meet those schedules. They’re not being as responsive as we would like them to be.”
