General Talk / CDFW to Begin Offering 365-day Fishing Licenses for 2023
« on: October 10, 2022, 08:54:44 AM »
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will begin selling 365-day fishing licenses far sooner than expected, thanks to extensive efforts by staff to expedite sales. Beginning November 15, 2022, California anglers will be able to purchase a 2023 fishing license that will take effect on January 1, 2023, and last the entire year. All licenses purchased on or after January 1, 2023, will be effective from the date of purchase for a continuous 365 days. About frikin' time!

I'm in need of a down rigger. Hoping that someone out there has an extra laying around that they'd be willing to part with.

« on: August 09, 2022, 08:30:13 AM »
I'm going to be camping for a week at the mouth of the Klamath over the Labor day week. I'll be targeting Kings and Steelhead at the Spit and the Glen areas and maybe surf perch at the spit. I have a basic and Steelhead licenses. What additional licenses/report cards do I need?

Stampede res. is out due to bad weather. Bullards looks good Monday morning. I'll be there at 6:30am. I usually launch at Dark Day but may try at Emerald Cove marina by the dam. Looks like the fishing is good at the Dam and houseboats. Gold Toyota Sequoia trailering a fire camo Feelfree Moken.

I'm planning to hit Stampede one day this weekend. Not sure what day yet. My usual fishing buds are busy so I'm headed up alone. I'm free all three days so it doesn't matter which day. Depends on replies and who wants to go when.

Craftsmen's Corner / Homemade storage cart.
« on: April 11, 2022, 10:22:47 AM »
Built a storage cart this weekend. Used two Luxor HE38 carts bolted together end to end and two 8' 2x4's. Cut the legs so it's the same height as the bunks on my trailer. No more lifting, just slide it from one to the other. Bunks are 5" apart and fit the keel perfectly. It's super stable and now all my gear is in one space. All I need to do now is add carpet to the bunks.

For Sale / FREE - Mens XXL Kokatat dry suit
« on: March 08, 2022, 02:18:41 PM »
AlsHobieOutback graciously gave me a dry suit to try out. Unfortunately its way to big for my skinny ass. When I tried it on, I looked like a deflated Michelin Man!
So I'm paying it foreword. It definitely shows usage but is in serviceable condition. It will need the wrist cuffs replaced. If anyone wants it, let me know and we'll figure out how to get it to you.
If anyone out there has a medium they want get rid of, let me know!
Kevin

P.S. Thanks AL, I really appreciate it.

General Talk / Insurance for a kayak trailer?
« on: February 23, 2022, 10:04:56 AM »
Just purchased a Kayak trailer last Sunday. Did a little research yesterday and it seems that the general rule of thumb is that I don't need a separate policy for the trailer because it is covered by the policy of the vehicle doing the towing.
Do I need trailer insurance?
Thought I'd ask here first because I know if I called and asked my insurance company, they would say "Of course you do, come on In. That will be $200 a month!"

Your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Wanted To Buy / WTB Kayak Trailer
« on: January 26, 2022, 01:59:11 PM »
Anyone looking to sell a trailer? I'm tried of putting my kayak in the Sequoia. Limits passenger space and I cant lock it. Thinking about going the Harbor Freight or             Tractor Supply route but finding one already built would be great.

Getting gear ready for my first Halibut trip in the SF bay. In need of a medium size Farmer John. NRS or Stohlquist in 3mm preferred but not necessary. Seems that no one has them in stock.
Thanks, Kevin

Went down to Fresno to spend a few days with my sibs. My brother suggested that I bring down my kayak so we could hit a lake on Saturday. We decided to head up to Huntington. Pulled into the ramp parking lot about 6:00. After a long drive like that and several cups of coffee, it was time to hit the head before getting on the water. The Pitter was occupied. After a few minutes, this old dude, at least 90, with no teeth comes out and says "You boys gunna do thome fithin'?" We replied, yes, we'd be dropping in the Kayaks in a few minutes. He says "Gunna be a gud day fo Fithin." I asked him how he knew. He replied " Cus thers migets in da cwapa, Iths always gud fithin wen ders migets in da cwapa."  Trying to keep a straight face I thanked him for the tip and he walked off. I stepped into the pit pot and sure enough, there were maggots in the Crapper. I started laughing so hard I couldn't hold my aim and proceeded to hose down the entire space. My brother wasnt to happy with me when he went in afterwards. Anyway, it turns out that the old fart was right!  We put in and paddled maybe 200 yards and my FF lit up. Kokenee stacked everywhere! We both limited with  11-14" fish in less than an hour. I'm checking the Cwapa from now on!

Fish are at 30' in 50 feet of water. Pink micro Hoochies with salt/sugar cured corn, behind 4" pink/gold dodgers.

Met Fishcampguy and 5weight at the Dark Day ramp. Perfect conditions with glass water and broken clouds. Trolled to the Willow Creek arm and picked up a few Kokes on the way. The fish were stacked in Willow Creek! All three of us came home with limits.

Ken, it was a pleasure meeting and fishing with you.
Darren, it was great fishing with you again.

It's always nice to fish with good people and enjoy a cold beer afterward. We'll have to do it again real soon!

Kevin.
