For Sale / Re: Weights . Sac Area
« on: November 13, 2023, 12:15:46 PM »
Bought weights from him several times. Last time I was there, I picked up a bunch of cannonballs probably about 25 or so. He was so drunk that he said ď to many to count and do the math! Just take them!Ē Iíll square up with him next time Iím there. He has all types of weights at really good prices.

Sold my last bike, 2018 KTM 450EXC-F Six Days, a few years ago. Regretting it now. I get the itch to ride so bad sometimes now. All I can do to cure it is go fishing or drink. Not that that's a bad thing!

Welcome David, there are a great deal of us members that live in Sacramento and the surrounding areas. Most of us fish both fresh and salt waters. If you ever want info or someone to go with you, just post a open invite in the non members forum. After you have 10 posts, you'll open up the members only forums and you can post invites there. I'm in Sac near Watt & El Camino and fish fresh water often. Mostly for trout and Kokanee but willing to go just about anywhere and fish for anything.

CA Regulations / Re: Crows in Sacramento (and other cities)
« on: October 26, 2023, 11:48:00 AM »
Back when I was a kid in the 60's my brother and I would go out to the corn fields outside of Fresno, put up a wooden Owl on a fence post and shoot crows. We'd pop one and two minutes later the crazy birds would come right back to drive the Owl away. They were considered a pest back then and some farmers would pay us to shoot them. Then, I believe they were reclassified as a migratory bird and we couldn't hunt them anymore. Took them to Granny and she would make Crow Pie or Blackbird Pie as she called it. Much like a Chicken pot pie only a bit gamey. Miss her and those days!

Yeah, I used to cringe when I'd see people on the wall(2nd pic) throwing 3oz cannon balls up against the dam and then rippin it back in as fast as they could to snag the kings or guys in the wading line, landing a hen, taking only the roe, and tossing the carcass on the bank, over and over. I've spent many hours there in the wading line and have many fond memories of that place. Over the years it got worse and worse with snaggers, fights, and idiots leaving trash everywhere. Sad to see it shut down but completely understand why they did. There are plenty of other locations on the AR to get your feet wet.

I am the last hold out on getting a smoker. But my mancard is still in effect though since I own 2 motorcycles and 2 hobie kayaks.
Man card approved - 1 demerit for no smoker!  :smt044

I may be the last American male w/o a smoker, so had to borrow my fishin' partners'.  They came out pretty yummy though.  Sly Creek Res bounty from September (thanks again to @plugnjug).

Looks good. My smoker is nothing fancy. Just a inexpensive no frills capsule type, about $130. I'm a purist when it comes to cooking meat. Gotta have real charcoal and wood chips. No propane or pellets for me!
May head back to Sly Creek this Saturday.

General Fishing Tips / Re: GoTo Boat food/snacks
« on: September 27, 2023, 03:41:18 PM »
I too donít have a big urge to eat that early in the morning, but after long daysÖI too was feeling pretty thrashed. I also cramp up a lot in my quads and feet when peddling for many miles, best solution for me is bringing an avocado which tastes better than a banana and has more potassium as well.

I also bring a 3 liter camel bag full of water and drop a few of those hydration multiplier tabs into it. Both help with the cramping. When Iím thinking ahead a bit more, I like to bring protein bars, pop tarts and when available PIZZA!
Edit...
Cramping issues have continued despite the potassium snacks and lots of hydration. I've started taking Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium supplements along with a daily multi-vitamin. Even with those interventions I'm still experiencing infrequent but sever cramps that can make getting back to the launch more interesting than I like or feel is safe.

I started bringing along one of those watersnake 24 lb thrust engines and a 100 amp hour lithium battery as a fail safe. I have not used it much besides testing it out while crabbing, but I do feel a lot more peace of mind having this option on board if needed.

If anyone else is experiencing the cramping stuff, the vitamins and attention to hydration have made a noticeable difference for the better.

I experience the same thing occasionally. I now keep a small bottle of Hylands Leg cramp pills in my dry bag. I was skeptical at first but they work for me. When cramps hit, I put 3 under my tongue and they dissolve in seconds. Within a a minute or two the cramps are gone.

I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK
I sleep all night and I work all day.

[Chorus]
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea

[Mounties]
He cut down trees, he eat his lunch
He go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he go shopping and has buttered scones for tea.

[Chorus]
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars.

[Mounties]
He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps
He likes to press wild flowers.
He puts on women's clothing and hangs around in bars.

[Chorus]
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees, I wear high heels
Suspendies and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear pappa.

[Mounties]
He cuts down trees, he wears high heels?
Suspendies...and a bra?

... He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

... He's/I'm a lumberjack and he's/I'm OK
He/I sleep all night and he/I work all day.

The trout and kokanee lakes are about 1.5 to 2 hours away in the Sierra foothills. I have a lake where I'm C-n-Ring 20-30 fish a day. I'll probably go Saturday the 9th. If you need info on tackle and rigging, let me know.

Hello, so glad to have become a member of this forum.

I don't have a long history of fishing or kayaking. My son and I started fishing last winter of 2023, and soon realized we wanted to be on the water and not just the banks. Then came the kayaks in earlier this June. Pictured here, was our first catches on the South Fork American River. Looking forward to reading about everyone's adventures.

We both have a Hobie Revolution 11.

Welcome Funkymonk, There are a bunch of members from the Sacramento area. I'm in Sac. If you're interested in trying for Trout and Kokanee, let me know. I'm going after them next weekend.
