Does anyone have an update on Mr. X?

We followed every step of his trek with respect and admiration. Did he and his boat get home safely; and hopefully, to a heroes welcome?
Thanks to anyone who can share.
Dane

Hi Dane,
Sorry I didn’t update these days, thank you remind me. I am back home almost 2 weeks already, and in these two week, i am busy to take care the back and front yard, watering the fruit tree which near to die

And also sort out the picture video, wrote some chapters for this journey. I want it be recorded to be my whole life memory, but i wrote in Chinese first, i plan after all i wrote, i will use chatGPT to share in NCKA, as you knew, my English is not good, sometimes can not express what i want to say. Please check below link for  my article in the website, you can choose the English translate when you open.

And also busy in work since i took 1 month leave, lots of work need to do

And need to take care one strange thing. San Jose city give me a citation for my house walk way. I removed a huge die tree, this tree root also raised the curbs, 1-2 inch higher than walkway. City say its risk for other people. But the thing is, many other area in this street much worse than mine, I asked them why  only focus me? They said you can highlight this case to city, they cannot do anything if no one highlights. I ask them you are inspector, this is your job scope, i dont want to finger point each other in neighborhood. But they just do nothing

And i asked them, if i leave as is, let the die tree die there, no one care, when i want to make our street live environment better, you come, not encourage me, but discourage me, give me citation, that doesn’t make any sense.

So ridiculous! And to rebuild the curb, need $4000-$6000. Anyone have the same story? Can share how to handle this situation?

I am approaching destination, only 33 mile left, tomorrow will arrive. i am the latest one, but i don’t worry, actually i am quite happy for myself, the last two are all solo and small thing, last second is the guy from isreal driving a professional sailing cat x, similar as Hobie cat 16, just smaller, this one sailing is very fast

Mine is multiple functions TI, for leisure, for sailing, for fishing, so not fast. The Isreal guy he is deserves be earlier arrive end line than me,

Other all small vehicle all quite, even one sail boat also quite

Its not easy, like yesterday and today, weather forecast is wrong, yesterday i only sail 30 minutes, others all use peddlers because no wind. Today i only sail 1 mile, others all need to use peddlers, that is why my drive eroded very fast. But at other side, weather forecast say no wind, actually suddenly there is a storm. This is this area, people call this water area is graveyard of pacific, there is a good reason

Alway check gust no others, and multiple 3 times, this is what actually might happen. HMB, SC, MBK or California water experience cannot apply here, i still keep Learning in this OJT

I am approaching Ketchikan, maybe next Monday noon will arrive there, so i can quite sure i will make it!

How has the fishing been Mr. X!? I'll take a quick look for reefs on your path.

Fun following along safe journeys!

Hi smith, tried couple times, but so far no luck, maybe I didn’t find the right spot.

Hi everyone, i am still alive :)
Someone told me before i left port townsend Washington state for this journey, they call this area which i go as “Graveyard of Pacific” , now i know the good reason.

This area the weather is almost unable predict, when the data in forecast page saying 15 mph, it maybe 40 mph actually, no wonder the team from canada navy told me once: something need to multiple by 2-3 times for real wind strength. That time i really unbelievable how it can be? Now I totally believe, today weather is around 12 mph in windy app, but actually i feel its reach to 35 mph or even more, i can feel the sail mast is shaking , and the rope making “woo, woo….” This scary sound, and most of time 1/3 my kayak underwater , some huge wave even cover my body. My glass got blur and some water inside my eyes, but i even no hand to clean it, only blinking my eyes as quick as possible to let me see the surroundings situation. it just change in few minute, and that time i was in the center of johnson strait, i almost got capsized but luckily I escaped

Oops, oops!!

And why they didn’t multiply 3 times based on they forecast, then put in the website as real wind strength?

Barring a major mishap, it looks like the leading boat will easily finish today. Assuming that is the case, if I read the R2AK website correctly, the sweeper boat (the "Grim Sweeper") will launch on the 21st, and cover 75 miles/day, and once it passes a boat, that boat is required to exit the race.

So far, it looks like Mr. X is averaging about 40NM per day, which is very impressive. If he can continue to average 40NM per day, and all of that is made good towards the finish line (as opposed to, say, tacking back and forth for 40NM, which would result in less than 40NM of actual progress), by my calculation, he'll finish the race about 1 day ahead of the Grim Sweeper...

40 mpd is achievable without problem if weather is ok, if current and wind be favorable to us, we can do even 60 mpd, i waste this whole day on a bay to avoid a strong wind, how about other racers, I cannot check because weak signal

Don't fully believe weather forecast, this morning wind around 35-40 mph, now current reverse turn, so even wind stop, still not good

I just checked the Tracker.  :smt001  Forget-Me-Knot has covered 53 nautical miles in the last 24 hours.

Yes, I've been watching that one closely too. That is amazing sailing on a TI. Just from the track, you can tell when she's had headwinds, as her tacking has been brilliant.

Yeah, this lady is genius,  she is a TI real racer. other than that, the Canada navy team also is surprisingly, their boat is heavy looks stupid old wood made, and they also looks not everyday exercise soldier, someone even fat, first day I followed them for a while, they even not paddling, they cooking, eating, laughing, joking, just open the diy sail and controlling the direction, sometime left sometime right, some time center sometime followed the bottom of the mountain, you know what, their boat is much faster than mine. Should something inside

Mr. X has a nice tail wind for the morning.  He's making good 2.4 knots at the moment and he's closed the gap to the back of the pack.

The one that I find the most amazing is Team Boogie Barge

That one caught my eye, too!  The huge gap the leader, Malolo, had yesterday got me looking into them, too.  That's a fast multi-hull with a team of downright racers.  It's fun to see the contrast between the racers who are keeping time and the casual folks like Mr. X looking only to avoid a DNF.

For me, of course to be no DNF is my goal, I consider its good enough for me, how can defeat that huge boat by kayak, not even close, when you physically stand by that boat, you will know what i mean. And most racer is local people, that area is their backyard , they know current well, and some people join 4 times R2AK already.

Finish it, enjoy it is my goal , no expect much which is not mine

I keep an eye on it on and off.  I was wondering why Mr. X camp at the island on the right instead of left of the tracker screen.  He got to make up for the lost distance this morning.

The current, current can make people exhausted, that time i want to turn left for parking kayak to sleep on it, but i found i am unable, the next morning after i back the tracks, current against me again, i spend whole morning just for that 2 mile, and need keep driving continuously, otherwise i will drift reverse direction.
