"spot burning" is a joke. "localism" is a joke. If you put the time/effort/resources to get out on the water and find these fish you deserve to catch them. The amount of effort it even takes to get out there and do this is tremendous. You put all this time and money into trying to get on fish and when you don't catch it is discouraging. So yea, I am going to pull together all my resources to find out where and how fish are being caught. There are simply too many humans on this earth and a lot of them are assholes. I laughed my ass off at this video. People suck and you can' please everyone.

Will someone post me an amazon link to a recommended treble hook they use for a stinger rig when halibut fishing. I am not a treble fan.. but have always had trouble getting hooked up on halibut. The have such a subtle bite and I am tired of losing opportunities. Please and Thank you

I had one swim under me in 2019 and I will agree with the video... these things are as wide as a VW bus. Absolutely massive creatures. I went out the next weekend. No sense in living life life in fear. The shark factor is what makes the kayak fishing that much more of an adventure. Everyone is going to die. If you leave this world getting mauled by a pre-historic apex predator then I'd say that is going out with a bang!  :smt002

I think it is just time on the water. I went out yesterday is some serious wind and the kayak performed wonders. It is tippy here and there but I think over time once I get familiar with what I can get away with it will be fine. The daggerboard does sound like a good option and I probably will get one but overall I am in Love with the Revo 16. Wonderful boat

Does the daggerboard make that much of a difference in terms of stability? also speed. Does it slow you down and by how much? Looking for advice from someone who has it. My 16 is a bit on the wobbly side but I am coming from a 32" wide kayak and need to spend more time on it. Just looking at ways to stabilize. I dont want the blow up AMAs. Thanks

I picked up a pre-owned lamiglas classic glass 8'6" MHC from my buddy back in 2017. That is the only rod I use for salmon and it also does pretty well bounce ball trolling. It is listed as $109 on their website. Highly recommended. Used it 3-4 years in my hand now and still great.

I just ordered one! thanks

General Talk / halibut / salmon rod
« on: May 19, 2021, 03:01:40 PM »
I am looking for a rod I can use for both halibut and salmon. My buddy just gave me a nicer yard sale reel and I want to pair it with a decent rod. I already mix and match all my gear as it saves me money and I truly dont think the fish care. Any suggestions on a good halibut rod that could also be used for sammys? Ideally under $100, but i'd spend up to $200 if it seems really worth it. THanks

Pretty ridiculous that you have to register a piece of plastic.. California is such a love/hate state to live in

I texted john the night before with a picture of my salmon net asking "should I bring this?". I knew he already had a net but he then responds with yes definitely what if we hook into a double. Well... we hooked into a triple. It was absolute madness. If we didnt have that second net I dont think we would of landed all three fish. We launched morro bay and the original plan was to fish somewhat inbetween morro and port slo but I heard word that the bite was on fire out of port slo so we decided to keep moving south. We had a terrible start to the day. One guy showed up late and hungover. It was the first time using brand new $800 a piece downriggers. Both down riggers were wired wrong and letting line out instead of bringing line in. So we had to rewire both plugs there on the boat offshore. I dropped my sunglasses in the water. I mean everything was not going our way. And then boom. Triple hook up and we put all three fish in the boat. We caught two more sammys throughout the morning and were headed in by 12. From talking to other friends on the water I believe this to be one of the best Salmon Openers in 10 years. People were killing it! I have posted a link to a video from that glorious morning that I just uploaded on my youtube channel. I honestly cant stop thinking about this and had to share. I got Sammys on my mind!!!

Why is it always some outlandish, ridiculous "solution" coming from people who have probably never done this line of work and don't have the slightest idea of what is actually realistic. Not just in fishing. Like all forms of government. Look at our gun rights we are about to start slowly losing.
