General Fishing Tips / Re: Kayak loading on tailgate spoiler

Thanks y’all. Good advice here as usual.
I will give the Codinter device a try since it’s the simplest option. My Odyssey doesn’t have rails or hatch, so first order of business would be to install the rails and crossbars.
I’ll report when I make progress
Dont do it, use something like Thule Outrigger or Rhino Rack Universal Load Assist.  I used to do exactly that with my Revo 16 with suction cup device ...... you want something that wont fail ....... just take my word for it.  The problem with the Revo 16 is that it is so damn long ..... but when you glide in the water, you forget all the loading issues  :smt007

I do not, but you are welcome to try it out even if you dont buy it.  I haven't started the motor for about a year and the yak is a little dirty, but otherwise is ready to go.

Yea, it is very stable, I am never scared of making it home, even through Moss Landing washing machine.  Sadly, it is sitting still and not sure if I can ever use it again  :sad11: :sad11:

For Sale / (Maybe) Hobie Adventure Island
« on: December 03, 2023, 11:14:12 AM »

Just poking around here and gauging whether there is strong interest for an excellent condition  2015 Hobie Adventure Island with trampoline, motor mount, and Suzuki DF2.5.  All complete with downrigger and reverse mirage drive with a v2 for spare.  Lots of good fishing omen on this one.  Should ready to go (although I havent used it for over a year).
Comes with heavy duty aluminum Trailex trailer, will fit two AIs.  Excellent stability and range, probably should've used this one exclusively ....

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Opinions on Hobie cradles?
« on: May 18, 2023, 01:23:28 PM »

Mark,    I consider doing that, but i was thinking getting the yak on the trailer from the water could be a little PITA.  I do have AI cradle for your model years that  you can have, on me of course.

You want the battery to be very reachable and serviceable in case of on.water issues.

There is a hobie sidekick knock off on Amazon, might be something to look at.

I am very curious about kayak fishing.  Since I already have a whitewater kayak, I'd like to give it a try with that.

I will be fishing at Alameda rockwall, the fishing ground is only about 100 yards from launch dock.  Do you think I'll be OK?  Is there any potential problem?
The problem is once you are 100 yards out, you maybe tempted to go further out.
If you want to try it, the area by the boat ramp (and I suggest the area off the beach) are fairly mild.  I would say try the area by the beach in 1pm+ wind and see how you do.  Alameda usually looks decent in the morning, but if the wind picks up (and as the afternoon goes by), it will push hard.  If you fall in the water, you will be pushed away at a decent speed, so you will be in trouble in a hurry.

A sit-inside in the ocean is never a good idea imho.  Hell, some sit-on-top should never be used in the ocean.

Just remember this, fishing is a bonus, but making it back to the shore alive should always be the goal (therefore you can go fishing again).  Imagine you're dead ..... cannot be found ..... losing your gears along the way (if you survive) ....

Despite all the obsession and the rewards, you should remember that this sport is a very risky sport.  There should be a minimum 12' length on the hull imho.

Oh yeah, if all the speed/slowness, storage, stability, sea worthiness, etc arguments do not matter, think about how an 8.5' hull would performed when a boat runs over it (and I wish this would never happens to anybody, ever).
