General Talk / Motivation - A Life Well Lived.
« on: January 05, 2015, 09:52:05 PM »
Fifty years ago, Jim Whittaker became the first American to summit Mt. Everest.  This is a short 3 minute video that I find motivating and keep going back to on days when I feel like just laying around on the couch.  Helps me to get up and do something outdoors.  :smt001 Figured some of you might enjoy too.

Sure give's me even more motivation to want to get into spearfishing.

http://www.wallins.com/classes_freediving.html

I signed up to take the freediving pool session on Feb. 14th.  Anyone else happen to be taking this too?  From old posts, it looks like a few of you have taken this before and enjoyed the class.  I tried to get into the January 3rd class, but nobody else signed up so I had to reschedule.  Figured I'll do this class, then try the ocean one in March.

I really want to get into underwater hunting.  Figured this would be a good start and would possibly meet some others there too.  Tried talking my friends into joining but they're all afraid of getting into the water.

Introductions / Hooked!
« on: January 02, 2015, 06:07:22 PM »
Hi Guys,

New to the forum and to Nor Cal fishing.  (Used to do a little bit in So Cal)  Caught my first barely legal Ling about a month ago after dragging the yak down to Duncan's Cove.  It was the best tasting fish I've ever had.  I knew I had to get more of those.  :smt007

I realized the other day that the season from a yak was about to close so I talked a buddy into coming with me to Timber Cove for the season closer.  With hopes and dreams of catching huge Lings I couldn't wait to get on the water.  We left the fresh snow in Reno on Tuesday afternoon and arrived around 10pm.  It was my first time there but got our tents setup down on the beach for a cold night of camping.  When we woke up in the morning a few other guys had shown up to get out on their yaks too.

Unfortunately, I never hooked up with any Lings but did manage to pull up a nice black rockfish.  My buddy caught a barely legal cab that had a nice ling chase up to the surface.  I also missed something bigger out near the kelp, twice.  A little earlier too I almost lost most of my line to a stupid sea lion sleigh ride.  Luckily got it to break off near his end.

All in all it was an awesome quick trip.  The other guys out there were super friendly and wouldn't be surprised if they're on this board.  They were nice enough to share a ling so at least I got to have a nice dinner of the targeted fish. Thanks guys!

Lookin forward to meeting ya'll out on the water.  Can't wait till June.  :smt001  Actually can't wait so much that I may have to make a trip up to Oregon for the year round season.   :smt001 :smt001

I've just signed up for a freediving course with David Laird so I can get into spearfishing, so I'll probably be picking some of your brains on that subject too.

Sorry a bit long winded, just getting excited unfortunately as the season ends.   :smt001
