General Talk / Re: Napa River bank fisherman...« on: January 18, 2020, 06:32:08 AM »That's a pretty cool picture of a sonar return! Can't imagine what it is...... Might as well been a polaroid! 33
General Fishing Tips / Re: Trout trolling help« on: January 15, 2020, 08:34:15 PM »Back in the day, when we were able fish loch Lomond (In Felton) in our own kayaks I used 1/4 oz Roostertails trolled way back (100' or more) and typically got hits after turning at the dam as the lure sank during the slack turn. Also found that by trimming the hairs on the covering the hook just past the hooks I stopped getting short strikes. Some times I'd put a multi flasher (Mini blades) on to help. On some lakes up in the Sierras I run lead line and have 5-6 colors out running same lure, Roostertails. Having FF help was also key when using my down rigger. I was able to present my Roostertails at the depths fish were marking. 34
Fishing Tournaments and Events / Re: Lake Del Valle Reboot: 11 years later!« on: January 15, 2020, 08:03:30 PM »HOLY %^$# 11 Years? I remember that night! Can't say I've ever been that exposed at a campsite like that nights storm that hit since. Ben making a Frog horror movie for Mooch? With dueling banjo's music (Not the jaws theme) ah good times. Sadly I won't make this trip. 35
General Talk / Re: On the Lamb!!!!!!« on: January 12, 2020, 05:42:02 AM »I needed a good hardy laugh after last night work issues! This was it. Sorry you gota scram dude! 36
General Talk / Re: not humanly possible« on: November 16, 2019, 07:59:55 PM »Hahaha while in Navy Boot camp, (Circa 1979) Dude runs out of the cafeteria head yelling "Yall gota see this" One of the toilets had a round, firewood log sized terd refusing to fit down the toilet! Everyone knew who gave birth to that monster, it could only have been the one guy. He was a giant guy easily pushing 300lb mark but not a super fat guy! Just BIG. Glad I wasn't janitorial servicer that night! 37
Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Florence Lake« on: November 06, 2019, 10:15:45 PM »Beautiful country up there. Been a while but we camped at a "Hosted" campsite almost below the dam. Witnessed the most awesome lightning show blow in over the large bald mountain just east of the campsite. Felt the front pass as the temperature dropped a bunch, then clouds broiled over the mountain then the light show started! 38
General Talk / Re: Crab Thievery My Thoughts --> Stay Close« on: November 01, 2019, 07:53:50 PM »Hate thief's of any kind PERIOD. I think when a thief is caught, whatever vehicle it used in the act of whatever crime, Beit boat, bike, car, truck scooter owned or borrowed! whatever gets confiscated by governing law enforcement. Take away its means of travel, will get expensive short term. Don't think it'll stop them, but may slow them down a bit. I imagine some tweeker's girlfriend loosing her car won't be too happy about it. 39
Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Keel guard for new kayak« on: October 19, 2019, 07:19:33 PM »There ya go! Super simple! That PVC is tough if Sch 40 doesn't do it for you there's Sch 80 however it may not blend as easily! Don't forget the tail end of the hull as well! 40
General Talk / Re: Potential Power Outages« on: October 14, 2019, 04:38:59 PM »Just an FYI, My whole house generator isa Generak 9.5Kw system took them maybe 4 weeks for permits once we agreed to purchase a system They did everything! The salesman sold us a 7.5Kw sysyem but when foreman came for his look at property he upsized the system to 9.5 Kw at no extra fee! We were able to 0 % finance for 12 mo. $5800 Wife paid it off before tbe 12 mo was up😊 I recall us talking about getting one 10 years back, but money was tighter then and prices seemed out of reach. Ours uses propane. And during this last round, i noted our tanks guage. Running the thing over night the 2 night dropped tank 2% For you new home owners I recommend you give them a call have them come out do a site eval. Wont cost anything. Dont wait 10 years like we did. Troy Solar is not a household option for me here either. 41
General Talk / Re: Potential Power Outages« on: October 11, 2019, 09:14:36 PM »Got home from work Thursday(Yesterday 10/10) morning and our Genny was singing the praise of power. Great, no idea when power was shut off, (Sometime between Wed 17:30 hr and 0830hr Thursday) Friday afternoon when I got up power was restored. I Fear now, that when PG&E hears a bat fart, creating a breeze there gonna kill power! It's going to suck having to deal with power loss now every time wind blows! Winter time we expect outages living in a redwood forest from natural occurrences IE trees falling, limbs taking lines down the occasional drunk taking out a pole etc. Now we have to contend with breezy day's? How about, instead of awarding top PG&E execs with millions in bonuses,(For what I don't know) how about maybe updating transmission lines? infrastructure? Got nothing but respect for the linemen and the work they do. This isn't a bash against them. 42
Craftsmen's Corner / Re: FF fix in 5 minutes« on: September 06, 2019, 07:57:42 PM »Don't have one of these FF, but I must say, WHT were the designers of this particular model smoking when they thought putting a card slot on it not protected would be a great idea? Surely they knew the slot would get WET! I can only imagine they were thinking $$$$$ for all the repairs this little card slot would generate.... 43
General Talk / Re: close encounter with the famous.....« on: September 06, 2019, 07:42:07 PM »Yes one is happening soon, heard it on radio this afternoon on way to work. Can't tell you who's on the card though can't remember the names. I think a belt is on the line though. 44
Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Sea Cucumber - Fishing?« on: August 23, 2019, 07:31:20 PM »No thank you! I can't touch slugs and snails with out gloves (yeck!) no way I'm touching that alien! 45
Craftsmen's Corner / Re: How can I prevent a hole from wearing through the stern of my kayak?« on: August 09, 2019, 08:59:00 PM »I use either a folded towel or an old carpet remnant to lay the stern on while I lift the front up and onto my trucks racks. On my previous OB Hull (Returned for dreaded drivewell crack) I built up the wear area with hot glue. Basically laid a bunch of hot glue beads down to form a rectangular patch about 1/4" think. |
