Thanks for the report. I hate getting skunked while others are catching. In the rain would suck even more.
I discovered the "secret launch" on my own once and posted a pic on here and the elders did not like it so I took it down. It uses private docks so in theory the owner could deny access but I think a posted sign indicates that it is public access (that was probably required by BCDC during the development application). But I don't know. There is plenty of shoreline access next to that spot so it seems like they could install a more public dock or ramp, eliminating any issues. 5

Great video! Demonstrates the nuances of timing vs hesitation.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Descender Weight« on: May 01, 2024, 03:05:02 PM »Has anyone tested retrieving what might be a larger fish at slower retrieval from deeper water? I will try and report when the time arises.According to this PDF from the DFG on barotrauma: https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=36345 7
General Fishing Tips / Re: Descender Weight« on: May 01, 2024, 10:20:44 AM »
Sounds like I might be a little light in my weights if I get a large Yellow Eye deep. The one I descended on 12 oz was only about 50'.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Descender Weight« on: April 30, 2024, 06:12:28 PM »
I've descended fish with only 8oz, so I think 12oz should work for the majority of fish. After the first 10ft they compress quite a bit. Most of my descended fish were small gophers or Coppers, so not a large volume of gas. The one 21" yellow eye took awhile to get down. Worst case you could double a 10 or 12oz ball if it's not going down.

According to state data it's only 69% full. So someone must have built those structures in the wrong spot.

AOTY / Re: The return of the big measure board.« on: April 27, 2024, 12:04:28 PM »
That’s a nice board. Unfortunately it doesn’t float. I had to repair my plastic folder after last year’s SWS landing. We’ll see how long it lasts.

My forecast is showing it to get windy after 10 am. But it might be okay from harbor to pier. I would bounce herring or squid for halibut. I might be down there on the 2nd for RF/halibut if conditions allow.

That 35.75" one is amazing. Not only larger but prettier (for a catfish) than my fish.

I heard that they dispersed a bit. That's kokanee fishing. Never really a sure thing.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Viewing squid on the fish finder« on: April 23, 2024, 11:40:20 PM »
Personally I get a lot more sensitivity on my Lynx than on my Outback with the same FF (Lowrance Hook 5) but different transducers. I don't know if the difference is the transducer or the mount.
I remember taking notes from someone (Alan Fong?) that the transducer is more important than the FF and the ones that come included are not that good. |
