For Sale / Re: Kayak City Current Kayak deals!« on: May 03, 2024, 09:34:21 AM »You all know we don't allow overt advertising here. Just because they have a sale doesn't mean it's not advertising. I tried to explain that to Kayak City. I did say if they were offering special deals to NCKA, they would be welcome. Be part of the community and you will be part of the community. But in terms of general advertising, we don't really allow that here, and that's how the community has wanted it from the beginning. If you offer up something to us, we'll welcome you with open arms, no problem. If you're just advertising for your own sake, well, please rethink that. Which also brings up the question of what looks to be a "Commercial Account." Under the business name with street address helpfully provided on every post? Looks like no other reason than to make their money off of our forum, and our community? 5

General Talk / Re: Anyone have advice for a trip to Ketchikan, Alaska?« on: April 14, 2024, 09:29:26 PM »
I've spent a lot of time and multiple trips to Ketchikan. Call these guys at Knudson's Marina. It's outside of "town"and open to some really great fishing areas.
http://www.knudsoncove.com While at Knudson's, be sure to eat the best halibut burger in the world brought to you by our own Howard McKim. This pic is from the famous salmon shark trip Sansano and I went on with Howard and Chris Mautino in 2007. We set the world's record fishing these sharks out of Valdez AK. Bushy 8

General Talk / Re: USCG Proposing to Remove Mile Buoy - Santa Cruz - Voice opposition by 4/3/2024!« on: March 11, 2024, 06:01:35 PM »
thanks TEd. I will relay same message but with my limited layman's terms.
Poit will be 'redundancy' I need my compass, my gps, and the visual/audible mile buoy more tomes than I can remember in orer to make it home when the fog rolls in. I the old days, I'd triangulate from wharf/mile buoy/harbor horns with a big ear out for the sound of breaking surf. Uour is the most cogent and info-rich presentation I've seen. I will liberally plaigerize. Allen 10
General Talk / Re: Like to see this puppy on the Ocean« on: March 06, 2024, 08:53:07 PM »Interesting design. Wonder what are the dimensions and hull weight? Plus, look at the knee torquing as he positions. Another goofball design I am empathetic another heartbreak in the making. Hope he didn't borrow from his mortgage. Allen 11
General Talk / Bushy needs help Saturday morning (RESOLVED)« on: March 05, 2024, 08:11:19 AM »
WE'RE GOOD THANKS
I smashed my knee las week and can barely walk. Famed Sand Crab Classic is this coming Saturday, March 9. I need a couple volunteers with big trucks o vans to haul materials from my house over to Poruguese Hall around 8:30 on Satuday morning. Payback would be free attendance to the derby along with official tshirt and fantastic meal. A couple seldom-seen OG's are attending this year, Freddie and Stuart (Potato River). Other NCKA's are regular attendees. Weigh in crew almost all NCKA. Truck with cap or van, it might be rainy. Anyone? Bueller? Bushy PS out of town Tuesday and WEdnesday, no internet. TExt is great 831-251-9732 12
AOTY / Re: Electric Motors in AOTY« on: January 29, 2024, 08:34:22 AM »it really is just a matter of time. There were many folks that felt this way when Hobie pedal drives first came into play in tournaments. He was well into his 60's at the time. Being mostly genetic, the facial disfigurements had very little effect on his pedaling ability. Yeah though I gotta agree it's really not fair for a "contest" if someone is powered vs not powered. AOTY / Re: Electric Motors in AOTY« on: January 26, 2024, 07:32:25 AM »
I would value an AOTY winner that used their own power to get there and get back, WAY more than someone who used a motor. On the other hand, just go and have fun. Including motors/sails up front would certainly remove an avenue for cheating.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: baitcaster reel recommendations?« on: January 05, 2024, 10:27:24 AM »
I've never owned or even used a low profile baitcaster. Maybe because my Abu Ambassadeurs are all still going strong with 10-20years on them?
(Not that there's anything wrong with that...No..) Bushy |
