The only solution is to have multiple boats!

I think a Hobie Outback/Revo for salt and a Native Titan 10.5 or 12 for freshwater/bass would be perfect. I just gotta win the lottery...

In my mind, the wider boats are primarily being made for bass fishermen who want to stand. Some of these kayak bass tournaments are getting huge - seems like a lot of people are getting into the sport.

General Talk / Re: Monterey Surf fishing
« on: June 01, 2018, 09:27:49 AM »
Hey Slacked, you have a good chance at getting something pretty much anywhere between Moss Landing and Monterey's Wharf 2 right now. Bite hasn't been quite as hot as the weeks prior, but guys have been steadily picking them off throughout the stretch of coast this week. The issue lately has been the wind, which has brought in the kelp and grass. Areas can be totally unfishable due to the amount of kelp in the water. You can usually see it in the surf line but not always. If it looks "dirty", it is. If you do find clear water, spend some time working those holes. Hope you get em!

Nice job, boys! I'm hearing the bite has been kinda slow everywhere this week. Maybe that means they will be real hungry this weekend....

Very interested to hear your report on this boat. 10.5" seems to small compared to my current Triden 13, but I really want something with peddles and the ability to stand up in.

I've used fluoro and mono for surf fishing. I've noticed precisely zero difference, even in super clear water. As others have mentioned, I think there is just too much water moving around in the surf for fish to be line shy. That being said - I think fishing can be a mental thing in some aspects, and if you need to feel more confident that your gear is set up in the most effective way possible, I think it's totally worth it. For example - I use a long leader, at least 6-7ft, when surf casting. I deal with line twists, occasional tangles, and bites may be harder to detect because of it, but I seem to get more bites with the long leader. My thought is that the fish aren't so spooked by the sinker dragging through the sand by the time the lure is in front of them. Total mental thing? Probably. Have I seen guys catch tons of fish using 2-3ft leaders? Yes,  many times. But the long leader just feels better for me! Go with your gut.

Oh, and if you are going to use fluoro, don't use the blue label Seaguar. That stuff was horrible for me.
