i think if anyone is really serious about diving, at any dept should invest in the money for classes. your life is worth more than a few hundreds dollars.

youtube can be a good place to look up many question if you search a little. sometimes you don't even need to. . that's the first place i go to..

i dunno how accurate he is but it seems logical what he is saying. i do know i can hold my breath longer on an empty stomach versus a full stomach.

i'm not a diver but i do get into the chilly waters up north.. 3.5 is not enough.. at least 5 all over in the ocean. when i suit up in my 7mm i can't feel the water but as soon as i take it off, freezing. better to be warm than cold.

but i recently bought a open cell cressi 7MM and it's good but it takes longer to put on and take off. 1 piece 7MM is way faster for me. i can suit up in  a min.

i do noticed if you don't know where the holes are, you will not catch many, if any. once you find that spot, mark it and the fish will always be there.

Huh? This isn't true at all. Anybody that's ever put the time in knows that the hole you fish today might not even be there tomorrow. Let alone the fish that were in that hole.

i used to just go out there with my binocular and just look up and down the beach and see where the fish are caught and take note.

Of course, why put in the time yourself when you can just leech off of other people's hard work!

i used to catch ton of rainbow perch at pillar point on a specific area of the jetty. next time i went back there were 4 people and who knows how many after that. someone is always watching, too busy to noticed. that's why honey hole gone if too many people. unless you fish 24/7 you won't know.

Look for cove so it is protected a little from the wind? I used to go SWN last year and do shore dive. abs were not big but i was happy. Tomorrow is a good minis tide too and im thinking about doing some scouting around.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Good catfish spots?
« on: April 19, 2017, 12:52:28 AM »
if you are taking your kids out to fish and just to have fun at clear lake and not consume the fish, Crappies would be a better choice. I've heard crappies are abundant all over the lake and they are a blast to catch. well, whatever species you go after, you should have fun regardless with your kids.
thank you for your service.

General Talk / Re: MERGED - Shark attack on yak 3/18- Monterey Bay
« on: March 19, 2017, 05:25:18 PM »
Would a shark shield help prevented this attack? Im surprise there aren't many more of GWS attacks considering the amount of seal activities. but anytime we get out there, there is a chance of an attack. Always go with buddies for this reason even if you are an expert solo.

it's "possession" so i would assume it has to be with you at all times? there was one time I left  it in the glove compartment while I was fishing and upon landing DFG was checking and i told him i forgot it in my car. he was nice enough to let me go get it but he can easily given me a ticket.

CA Regulations / Re: Oh Deer, Oh Road Kill
« on: July 08, 2016, 12:05:24 AM »
Last month when we went up to Mendo for our last ab trip the road was clean, meaning there was no dead animals but on our way back we saw a dead deer on the shoulder. Not sure if a vehicle struck it or it came out from the woods and died. question.. do you report it in?

happy to hear all are back home safely. quick question. did the CG send you a bill? curious because i know paramedic will send some crazy bills.

For the record,  July and August is when the most attacks occurred to NCKA members and one in November.  3 happened in the Bean Hollow /  Pigeon Pt area.  I did not have any fish blood on my Revo 13 when I had my encounter at Capitola.

Its good that you have a positive attitude and enjoy the ocean.  I sure do.

I didn't mean to come across with any smart ass suggestion I am glad he was ok!! Bean hollow and anywhere north of 3 mile in Santa Cruz are always scary due to the larger resident Sharks that feed on larger animals like elephant seals etc.. And yes the time line is usually sooner for anywhere north of ano Nuevo. There are times I wouldn't surf at all up here because of that very reason..

Anyways just trying to help others not be as scared, I agree with everyone, just be conscienous and aware of your surroundings 👊🏽

As with everything in life, the more you are experienced with it the more confidence you have in yourself. You have a ton of experienced with water and sharks so you are definitely comfortable but to someone who have never experienced GWS sighting it can be scary. So far going on 3 years of kayak fishing i haven't encounter one but got a scared from a Mola Mola so it's something I will definately have to get used to. But for the meantime i'm with Keith, i will go the other way until I get comfortable seeing GWS and then i'll be superman. lol
