My wife might be happy if I started paddling the sharky zones again
Win-win for her, lots of fresh fish or one less og to feed

Was there Sunday on the beach, still felt sharky even on the shore....
-
wonder if his kayak was yum yum yellow or if there was a shark-shield on board

does it ever not? LOL
glad the guy made it without physical injury.
If it were me though I'd have some serious PTSD from that swim. I can only imagine what was going through his head, yikes.
What I'm wondering is where was his buddy?

that dude is either never swimming in the ocean again, or has a wheelbarrow to carry those nuts around

Would love to know what he was wearing, whether he had a radio and why he didn't self-rescue instead of the death swim...

Oh yeah. :smt009 I cannot imagine. 500 yards... 5 football fields... in a panic (Im assuming b/c no self rescue attempt)... just waiting for the same Polaris missle strike to the torso that just happened to your yak!

The Mercury News reported that the shark laid its jaws into the middle of a kayak, and a 19-year-old man, who had been fishing from inside the boat, fell into the water. The man then safely swam about 500 feet to shore.
Sounds similar to this encounter a few years back: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=34623.60

Ah... not as scary... still pretty scary.

Crazy, was there just last saturday... seals in the water didn't seem too concerned.
-
The sheriff’s office said this is the first shark encounter reported in this area since the start of the year.
Is that supposed to be reassuring?
-
The yak may not have survived the attack
-
im pretty sure swimming to the safety of shore counts as self-rescue. Flipping the kayak is just self righting.... they could have spent their energy doing that just to get knocked in again too. not that it matters since the shark bit the kayak in half per the reports..

I recovered the kayak, it is intact. Still trying to locate the owner for the return. The bite is at mid section. The IDD (distance between teeth) is about 50mm. The Bite diameter (width) is about 13 inches.
If you know who the person is, let me know.
thanks

For sale, one WS thresher kayak set up for salty adventures, also off shore rods and ocean tackle :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt005 :smt005 :shark Oh that swim, probably would have been an Olympic qualifying time!

can you post pix of the kayak?
