General Talk / Trying to find my boat
« on: March 31, 2020, 08:11:00 AM »
Hi friends...the Friday before the weekend lock down I was out on San Pablo Bay (1 mile off China Camp) in my Windrider 16 (kind of a sailing trimaran rig)....long story short...had rudder failure and got swamped by 5’ chop...had to call Coast Guard who graciously rescued me but unfortunately would not tow my boat in (I should have called Boat US tow! ... anyway... I have been searching for my boat along the shore of Highway 37 and between Pump House and the Marin shore line.  It is a 16 ‘ boat with a yellow sail..... If yo spot it please let me know!!!! Thanks
Matthew

Out today for a couple of hours .... Paddled with my 12 year old son around the Marin Islands..... He hooked one 17" Striper while I trolled him around.... Did not come home with dinner, but what an amazing February day.... If the water was not 47 degrees we would have taken a swim!

5 am it was beautiful....headlamp on to find pots.......I had to make it back home in Santa Rosa to go demo the Hobie drive kayaks from Wind Toys....anyway my son and I pulled 17 keepers....still a few monsters!  Water was glass except for the commercial boats heading out.  I feel really blessed to live so close to such a beautiful coast!  Had a great time trying out the Hobie's on Spring Lake.....pretty impressive boats boat a bit outside of my $150 yak budget  :smt001

Places to Launch and Camp / Angel Island Kayak in campsites
« on: November 30, 2011, 10:09:52 AM »
Just thought I would post a quick comment on the Angel Island Kayak in camp sites.  I reserved a couple of nights this past summer and had a great experience.  I convinced a few buddies to pack gear and paddle with my son and I across Raccoon Straight for some camp fun.  We paddled around Tiboron over to Richardson Bay and back around before crossing ..... we were waiting for the 30 KN gusts to die down a bit....my son is 8 and I didn't want to totally freak him out....actually I'm cool with freaking him out it's his mom that I would rather not worry.  Anyway....we crossed in my Cabo Ocean Kayak double and had a lot of fun cruising over the swells and chop.....I tried fishing as we paddled....a mistake in a double while crossing Raccoon Straight with heavy sailboat traffic.....anyway....My son asked me to turn off my VHF as we were listening to 3 simultaneous rescues happening along the city front and Berkely.....once I listened to him we both relaxed and made it across and landed on the beach.....found the trail up to camp (3 minute walk) and made camp.  We fished from shore and played around the island...hiking to the San Francisco side...very cool....got to watch the Oracle making practice jibes along Crissy Field.  I recommend the Kayak in campsites.....keep a close watch on the tide and currents and make your bay crossings strategically (cross on slack tide or just the beginning of flood....beware of the hard ebb).  The park rules state that you are not allowed to leave kayaks on the beach....so we drug my yak and gear 20 yards up the hill and tied it to a tree.
