Welcome to da club!
I like Kayak Connection and that's a good suggestion. Another place to test-paddle yaks is MBK (Monterey Bay Kayaks). You can try multiple brands/models in the same day and some are even setup for fishing w/rodholders & stuff. http://www.montereybaykayaks.com/

Thank you sir! I checked out their website and I noticed that they have two locations. Would you recommend one more than the other? It seems like there is quite a few yak owners at Monterey. Either that or thats the place to go!?

Glad you joined us, the invite from lolitaeric is legit he runs the large and well loved Gimmie Shelter Tournament make going one of your goals. After we meet on the water how about some basketball? Strictly Juan-on-Juan. :smt006

I will take you up on the bball lol. OK, goal added to my list!
Thanks!

I heard on Friday that Aquan in San Carlos is no longer in business.  Anyone able to confirm that?

I visited this location and it is no longer Aquan. Aquan has been bought out or "taken over" by California Canoe and Kayak. I arrived there at closing time, 5:56 and was disappointed that the door was locked. I was about to leave and I seen someone rush to the door and opened it. A gentlemen told me that he prematurely closed the store and kindly let me in. I told him I was not going to buy anything but had a few questions on kayaks. He had no problem and walked me around the store. Let me sit inside a Hobie and told/showed me a few different kayaks. He informed me that all of the current stock was from Aquan and did not have any regular California Canoe and Kayak merchandise. He did inform me as soon as he would sell any of the stuff he had in stock, they would restock it with their own.
I believe he mentioned there was going to be a grand opening sale in January.
Hope this helps!

Four words:

Foo koo shee muh  :smt002

LOL! Right? That has been crossing my mind from time to time since it happened. I have read that tuna fish have had signs radiation...I am sure there is more fish that are like them. I was thinking of buying a radiation detector...but they are a few hundred.  :smt030

I am quite the conspiracy theorists so no need to listen to me hahaha :dwarf:

Come down Santa Cruz way & try one out at Kayak Connection in the Santa Cruz Harbor!
Is that the one located at the warf? Do you guys have fishing kayaks? Do you guys do deals for fishing or crabbing?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Juan.  We're pretty advanced and calls Juan's Juan here!   :smt003  If you jaunt us to.   :smt005

Seriously though, you found the right place, and it sounds like you're psyched to get a great start in the sport.

If you're coming to Humboldt I can get you on a number of different boats to try out.  Maybe we'll meet at Shelter Cove for the tournament in May.   :smt001

Ha!!!!!!!  :smt044 Juan jokes! They never get old! Please share them, if you have Juan  :smt044

Sounds like a lot of poeple that love the sport. I have heard about you guys before I was searching for a kayak...seen a few videos on youtube as well.

That's a ways up there. Do not think ill any time soon to be able to make that trip, but thanks for the offer. If I have all my gear! I will surely try to make it out there! :smt023

I don't work for them ... just know their staff & owner.  I bought 3 of my kayaks from them over the years.  They are located on the East side of the Harbor, not on the wharf.  They sell & rent all sorts of kayaks & paddleboards.  Good supporters of our group too!

Gotcha! Thanks for the info! Much appreciated! I will definately stop by and give them a look and most likely a test run.

Thanks all!

Any one know of a good place to rent or demo Kayaks? The only one ive run into is hmbk(Half Moon Bay Kayak) and I believe they had only one fishing kayak. But they did offer a deal where they provide you crabbing gear and rent it for 110 for four or five hours.

Lol, yes i am expecting it! I do not have many "fishing" friends, so im pretty excited to say the least. I know salt water fishing is a whole new world and im not including kayaking. Im sure once i get my gear and setup, this new hobby will take most if not all of my other hobbies time.
BRING IT ON! lol

Hello ALL!
My name is Juan but most people call me John. I am new to kayaking-total newb, but I plan on renting a few kayaks reading more threads on here before making a purchase. I am not new to fishing but am new to salt water fishing and crabbing :smt007 :smt007 wich I have fallen in love with. I am from San Jose, but currently live in redwood city.
I wish to meet some of you soon in the water, or shore!
