Fished Calero this morning with Ken Fishnfool and Compa,We caught some bass, but no really big ones. The wind was tolerable for a change, and the PB traffic very light! A great morning with great company--and then it happened, I caught a pair of sunglasses on a senko!!

Had a great day on the water with Ken Fish'nfool--I C&R'd 10 LMB with many other missed bites and early releases,  He did a little better--20 C&R'd to 20.5"!! ( Didn't he just catch a 27" monster at Del Valle the other day?), All on senko's in shallow or medium depths.  We had little or no wind but tremendous boat wakes to contend with, the skiiers and ski-doos were relentless!                            Ken ( along with Compa) has been trying to teach me to catch California bass (I came to Nor Cal from upstate NY a short time ago) I think he has finally succeeded!     It got quite warm as noon approached, 95 degrees in Morgan hill.                                                                                                           Ken and Compa have convinced me to buy a float tube which I now see has advantages over the yak in some situations. Thanks for a nice day on the water, Ken!

Made a quick trip to cap wharf Sat PM. Caught 2 small BSP's on small rubber grubs just behind the surf. Nice to feel a little wiggle for a change!-----Doug

I ran into 2 very friendly Norcal Kayak Anglers last week at Calero--Ken and Jaimie (compa), they told me about Anderson reservoir. I asked them to PM me when they were going there so I could check it out with their guidance. Well, within a few days I got the message that they would be going on Thurs AM. I joined them there and learned a lot about the place (not enough to avoid a skunking for me though). I saw many keeper LMB's caught on green senko's.
Thanks guys for a great day on the water in a new (for me) spot! I can't wait till I can try it again---Doug

Fished Calero Friday, Got one LMB barely a keeper on a minnow in a back bay in 6 to 8 feet. Forgot my anchor and got blown around a lot, it was a bad wind direction for a drift. Wow, about 2 oclock or so ski boats and ski-doos all over the place!! I think I'll wait till it cools off a bit to try there again!!

Just decided to hit Calero tommorow--Friday. I will head up from Santa Cruz and get minnows at lys sports in San Jose, probably arrive at launch around 8 or so depending of course on traffic! Company always welcome---Cell 831-234-0435.
I hear that minnows are the key there,! I hope to try them for the first time!

Spent 3 or 4 hours fishing for bass, tried spinner baits, plastic worms and stick baits to no avail. It's a beautiful  place but so much boat traffic! I saw a few people catch a few trout and talked to a guy who has a picture of an 8 pounder he caught there right in his boat.---DS

General Fishing Tips / Minnows
« on: March 25, 2007, 10:42:22 PM »
Anyone have any ideas on where you can buy minnows around Santa Cruz? I would like to try some at Pinto or Calero without driving way out of the way to find them---Thanks, DS
