This is NWKA's biggest event of the year and it's a good one at that.  We've had NCKA peeps (including the Loose Screws) road trip up in the past and would love to see some NCKA'ers this year as well.

In 5 weeks from today, the Oregon Rockfish Classic will be underway in Depoe Bay, Oregon. I hope to see as many of you guys from NCKA as possible. Depoe Bay is just over 400 miles north of Shelter Cove, CA and full of big Lings and Fat Cabbies. Our prizes this year range from a 2013 Hobie Outback, drysuit, sonar, PFD's, paddles, rods, reels, GoPro Black and much more. Please sign up soon as the first 100 will receive a pretty cool captain's bag. Also, we moved the tournament back a month this year to allow for Cabazon retention as well as a better shot at good weather. Come join the fun next month in Oregon..  :smt003
Any question let me know..
Cheers!

Damn!  I'm not going to be able to make it this year.  The "Screws" plan to attend next year for sure.

I've got the tentative green light to make the trip up to Newport and Depoe Bay for ORC. Is there information somewhere on what kind of gear we need that isn't required here?  I know we need a safety flag. Anything else?  Visual signal device like strobe or flare?

Anything else I need to know?

Nice!

Yes, we require a flag.
We will have inspections at the campground the night before as well as the morning of at the launch.  Need a whistle.  PFD.  Most will have an airhorn to signal before going through the hole (blind exit from the harbor).  Or you need to buddy up with a group that has a horn.

In addition to an Oregon license, you will need an "invasive species permit".

It's all in the first post of this thread ... http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=10723

Not sure.  I'll ask.  Although salmon don't count for the actual tourney.

Here's what a local said.

Quote
Yeah there should be some clipped silvers running around out there. Kind of depends on water temps whether they are in striking range for kayaks. They always sit right on that line between warm and cold. The bait like it warm, and the salmon cross the line to get a belly full, then go back to chill. Where that line will be on our weekend is tbd. You might find kings too if you run deep enough.
