Tomorrow will be my season opener.
I have been looking at Monterey and Santa Cruz for the latest weather report, and we got some swells around 5 ft.
Based on the primary swell direction, Santa Cruz might be better protected.
I could be wrong, and I hope someone corrects me.

Plan to arrive around 6:30 AM (White Subaru Outback) and launch(Papaya Hobie Outback) around 7:00 AM.
Start looking for live bait, halibut, and rockfish (in this order).
I will be monitoring Ch69; call for NCKA members.

Thank you.
Delayed rockfish season in NorCal screwed my typical fishing plan.
I am looking forward to fishing with you soon.

Not much bait around here in SC and south swells keep fish lock jaw here. Monterey would be better, it's more protected from a south swell. Plus there might be squid around the Aquarium still.

Slow getting ready since it is my season opener.
Launched around 7:30 AM and arrived at halibut spot by 8:30 AM stopping by live bait spots.
Didn't get any live baits.  Got my first halibut (27") around 8:45 and was  very excited and expected to get the limit.
Dream on; I didn't get any more halibut bites.  Decided to switch to rockfishing for the last hour but no rockfish either.
The wind started blowing around 12:00 and wrapped up by 12:30.   Not much swell and very calm condition.
Wait for another day for the limit of halibut.

Wasn’t huge but some fun sets

Keep thinking I should take a speargun
Viz was about right for it

Looks like fun, but if you had a speargun, a surfer might call the cops...
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...
