I'll make it if I'm healed up enough to lift my kayak. Won't complain if you decided a late May date is better weather wise etc.

General Talk / Re: Kokatat in the wash
« on: June 15, 2023, 12:08:45 AM »
I haven't had any problems when I wash - after every 3-4 trips. Cold water gentle cycle. Just a little soap. More for smell than ink and blood stains

CCK in Redwood City has replaced rubber wrist gaskets for me. Didn't cost much.

Just got my suit back from Kokatat or rather a brand new suit. Sent it in for their $45 leak test and repair. I didn't have any problems with it. Was just servicing it for safety reasons. There was some fabric bubbling or delamination on the socks which I thought they might want to charge me more to replace.
Without prompting from me they offered to replace the suit for free!
This was my second suit which was also a free replacement. I think I sent my original one in for gasket replacement  and they gave me a new one because they said the fabric was weeping. I had noticed some dampness in my regular interior socks but nothing really worrisome. So other than the basic service fee I've gotten 3 suits for the price of one. Great Company - Kokatat

General Talk / Re: Snow / sledding for younger kids?

Hwy 80, Kingsvale tubing  and at Donner Summit  Soda Springs  has the best tubing hill  plus Planet  Kids for the youngest. Also the cheapest  little  kid  beginner ski and snowboarding  lessons.

Hwy 50, probably  Fresh  Pond with these  conditions  and at the  top of Echo  Summit  is a tubing  specific  resort- can remember  name at the moment.

Ketchikan/ Clover Passage  is OK but not the best  fishing.   Last time  I talked  to  McKim around  2016 he was out of the Kayak  fishing  business.  Chinook   Lodge may have Hobies  to rent and you  may  be able  some older  kayaks like  T-15s  near  there  too  . That's  what  we used  on my last  visit  to  Ketchikan.

Its almost all already  been said.  If you  want  to  turn your  kayak  into  a boat  its  up to  you.  If you  don't  enjoy  exercising  ( pedal  or paddle) and the relative quiet and vibration  free  environment and prefer to limit  the locations you  can  launch ( ie; Beach  launches /landings in marginal surf conditions) and concerns about  righting a flipped  kayak  with  a big battery  don't  worry  you (you  will  flip  if you  do more than a little  kayaking), then you  should  definitely  be a motor  guy.  Ultimately  just  have  fun. That's  what its  all about.

General Talk / Re: Appropriated artwork
« on: March 22, 2023, 04:58:04 PM »
So two kayak fishermen have a concern that one of them is, intentionally, or unintentionally, using the others exclusive artwork.
So they calmly, like rational men, clarify the situation and decide how to proceed.
I doubt we will be treated to the drama of legal action around this.
Come on & chill Weather!
We need more time in the kayak zone.
Where the only drama is when something bites

I fished a lot off the Monterey Wharf in the 70's. It seemed that Starrys where more common than Halibut back then

For Sale / FREE smoker
« on: June 07, 2022, 05:44:29 PM »
Looking to get rid of Smoke Hollow propane smoker.
Haven't used for a couple years.
The bottom was rusting out, so I braced it with bricks under burner on my last smoke.  You could do something similar and a new burner would be advisable.
48" tall on legs interior of box is 38" tall by 20" wide.
Have chips box and water bin and can provide wire shelves
Interior in need of serious degreasing
Located in Fremont - You pick up

General Fishing Tips / Re: Tangled 3-way halibut rig
« on: June 07, 2022, 05:28:23 PM »
I use premade - wire center or heavy mono rigs. I get the ones made for two hooks and cut off the bottom one - so the bait/ leader is close to the bottom but not on the bottom. They have 3-4" rigid arms which help keep the leader from drooping down onto the main line.. Cen Coast once told me (sorry Pat for exposing your secret) he uses a drinking straw at the line junction to help keep the leader from drooping. Plastic tubing would work well too. Push it over the three-way eyelet and maybe a quick blast of heat to shrink it around eyelet
