what does your transducer plate look like?

it doesn't flex up and down right?  it is like the one on a Hobie Compass I think?

what is that quick release for?  I assume a trolling motor?  does the hole pattern match the power pole mounting holes?

and I have a 7" screen, and my ball mount is pushed to the limits supporting it.  I lean it down, so it rest against the kayak itself.  I have the 1" ram mount.  I can't tell which one you have, but just a thought.

lake Sonoma is fun from your end.

Still chugging along.

mine is rough looking.  one of the rings that keeps water from running down my arm has given up the ghost.  I can feel a tiny click when I use it to  push off rocks.

other than that, it seems bulletproof.  is it a catastrophic fail?

General Fishing Tips / battery enlightenment

I always wanted a Chet battery.  I opted for the Nocqua, but if I am being honest, this battery kinda sucks.  I have had 3 of them, and I am 100% failed.  none of them, charged past 12.11 volts in very short order.   I keep them around to charge up cell phones during blackouts, and they run my line of LED lights at camp.

I ponied up the cash for a Amped battery and it has been amazing.  I have run my 7" Garmin fish finder for 9 hours and it goes down to 13v on the fish finder overlay thing.  quick charge back at home and I am ready for the next adventure.  the thing wasn't that expensive.

I run my trolling motor with a 24V 60aH Dakota Lithium, and I way overbought.  I think a 30ah would be a better fit.  i think I can go 3 days.  something like 8-9 hours.

Lakes...freshwater lakes.

I don't want to feed any sharks Chinese food.

Where is a good place to purchase from?  I noticed Dick's sporting good sells some.  Or does Dicks sell the lower end Kayaks?

Windtoys in Santa Rosa.  new owner Billy really seem to modernizing the experience.  he is selling used boats now, as well.  I just saw a Hobie Outback that he was forthcoming about.  used hard boat, but he updated it.  priced well.  you can online buy one now from him.

GIANT bass in there.  apparently the lodges pay for small trout to be stocked for the kids.  and the bass grub them.

Launched at River's End at 7 AM. Super Windy. Went directly right into Old River. Caught 0 but my partner caught 2 on a Senko.

Headed out towards the Tracy Oasis Marina side and in that canal on the right, caught 8 fish cast after cast on a Texas Rig Senko - Watermelon color. Fished the low tide at the time.

any fish of size?

General Fishing Tips / Re: Elite 5x chirp transducer replacement
« on: June 17, 2024, 01:37:22 PM »
Just like the title says- can anyone point me towards a replacement transducer for a Lowrance elite 5x chirp? I got gifted a head unit, but have never had a FF on the yak so I'm lost as far as what I should be looking for. I mostly fish kelp down to 150ft and mostly want to see structure on the bottom, but marking fish would be cool too.

Does such a thing exist sub $100 or should I just get a Striker 4 new?

ahhh...this one.  no I don't remember the Khtz..  I looked in the edisposal bin in garage and it isn't there.  wife emptied it already.

General Talk / Re: Any fad diets for Hobies? Asking for a friend.

My Outback is maneuverable. I can shuffle side walk it out of my cramped garage if needed.  Itís heavy yes, but for me the danger is the bulk/size.  If I hurt myself it will because I tried something dumb. I do yoga stretches now regularly.

Iíll never buy a pro-angler.  I pretend Iím deaf when my friend asks for help.

I wouldnít want it lighter, because itís bet that make our hulls crack even more. Iím okay with my chubby Outback.

General Talk / kayak trailer. bunks or crossbars?
« on: June 08, 2024, 09:04:41 AM »
what do you think is more beneficial with respect to the health of the kayak hull?  driving with a kayak on bunks, or on crossbars?

I am leaning towards crossbars.  I think for long distances, I would flip my Hobie Outback upside down on crossbars and strap it down.  no rain issues, etc.  and the Hobie Manual does state that storing it upside down is the best way.
