General Talk / Re: Theives

Yah, I once thought about that, then sanity hit and I realized I would most likely be sued and loose in court and have to pay the thieves for the trouble I caused them in interrupting their line of work and their freedom to commit crime, R.

This really sucks, I live in a very populated area, in a mobile home park and have had multiple bikes, 100 foot hose, planter pots with plants. My car parked in the driveway has been hit with major damage and even when neighbors were out, no one saw anything. I have put up cameras and the thieves cover their face so imposable to identify. It's gotten to the point that this is normal behavior and considered a way to supplemental income (as far as the thieves see it). It seems even the police really no longer are able to prevent crime but can only follow up with after the fact. What has the world come to, not much you can do, oh well, R.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Help w a kayak fishing rod / reel?
« on: March 11, 2025, 07:31:47 AM »
I love the Tranx serise, I use a 300 and 400 for halibut. I use a Shimano Travala 5' 6" on the kayak and a St. Croix, 7' inshore on the pier. I do like the shorter rod on the yak. I started by buying a cheaper rod/reel setup at first and pretty soon upgraded to the better rod/reel set up and keep the original set up for friends and as a back up. If cost is really a problem but you think you will fall in love with this hobby, I'd go for a better set up at first. The upgrades are worth it, Ron.

Hey there, I just turned 69, made the mistake of not buying mine when I turned 62, oh well. I just purchased my lifetime, better late than never,  see you out on the water all, Ron.

Introductions / Re: Glad to be here
« on: February 06, 2025, 04:09:57 PM »
Hey Richard, Ron here, I would like to plan an adventure with you, I have been scuba/free diving, mostly from shore and dive boat. I have not really gone out in the kayak for spearfishing, just kayak fishing. I go freediving in the Monterey area, mostly Lover's 3, Coral street and other local spots. I will sometimes use a DPV to get out or to cover distance. I had surgery on my shoulder and elbow late last year, so I will be a little slow as I am in rehab stage, let's talk, take care, R.

Hey there, Ron here, I am also interested in freediving/spearfishing, I am a scuba diver that has freediving for a short while. I was thinking of this Sunday also. I am at work today, off by1930 tonight if you would like to talk. I can send a PM to you with my phone number, Ron.

Now I'm confused, I thought SWS was for stillwater cover, up north, stillwater south is where exactly. Near stillwater cover or down south, please let  me know, I'd like to try it out, R.

Introductions / Re: Newbie in Pacific Grove
« on: June 13, 2024, 09:14:43 AM »
Hey there, I found a used scupper pro for cheap, 200$ and fixed it up for fishing, added a trolling motor and pontoons on the rear. It's a great kayak to get started, lighter than most fishing kayaks. I am thinking of booking a trip with MBK in the next month, if you are interested in going out again, LMK, I have added you to my buddy list. I frequent Monterey/Carmel area often and also spearfish and scuba dive so I am always looking for buddies in that area. I was just down to Coral street and Point Lobos last week, had a great time. Let's keep in contact, take care, Ron.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Kayak guide for Saltwater intro
« on: May 30, 2024, 02:54:57 PM »
A couple of ideas, look at the site www.bask.org, they are more for kayak, but have a nice site and they have a great trip planner to look at where put ins are and discuss them. This group is great to ask questions and a hook up with someone with more sea skills. I believe one of the moderators who works with Monterey Bay Kayaks in Monterey leads fishing tours, so when you feel comfortable in open ocean, book a trip with him. I was actually thinking of booking a trip with him, so you are welcome to join me if you like. Another option is to first go out in bay water and get used to gear and handling it so when you are out in the open ocean you are familiar with it. You are welcome to send me a PM and maybe we can set up an outing in Monterey with the guide. I believe he is ADAM HELM 67, Good luck, Ron.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: SharkShield Issues

I bought mine from marin dive center in San Rafael, you could call them and ask, or maybe another dive shop that sells them, hope all works out, I have two units, for freediving and scuba, I'd hate to see they can't be repaired, R.

Hey Troy, thanks for getting back to me. I am down in Monterey this weekend, the next two weekends I would like to go out and hunt some halibut, thinking of local, rod and gun launch or China camp and a couple of weeks after that maybe a camp out in Olema and go for crab and halibut in Tomales Bay. Maybe we can try to talk in the next week, Ron.
