Craftsmen's Corner / Outback load assist
« on: December 28, 2023, 12:59:53 PM »
I sold my AI (tired of the limits trailering) and bought a 2023 Outback, but seems the years finally caught up with me,,, When I bought it I thought the hobie load assist was the answer for me, but I found out it didn't work for me. I still needed help loading it into my truck. My fishing buddy had the answer, he made one with wheels that attached to the lift handle (like the hobie loader). It works great.

For Sale / Trailer/Harbor Freight
« on: October 07, 2014, 12:50:16 PM »
I'm selling my father-in-law's Harbor Freight trailer (#69897) it's 4' X 8' Price to an NCKA member is $175. I'll list it on Craig's list for $275, later in the week. It's not assembled.
I had one and set it up for hauling my kayaks, I sold it when I bought my 4.7, it was to short (short tongue), had stiff springs so it bounced (1720lb capacity),  and I didn't like the way it backed up (short tongue).

Check out Bloosee.com, it'll give you GPS coordinates, NAOO overlay, distance calculator. Wind direction. I don't know how accurate it is, but I'm sure someone in NCKA will.

General Talk / paddle reccomendation
« on: June 05, 2012, 01:20:21 PM »
I've been thinking about upgrading my paddle. So far I'm thinking a Werner Camano or Corryvrecken would be a good choice. I'm more of high angle paddle so the Corryvrecken would be "Werner's" reccomendation , but I'd like to hear what some of you think.  I've tried a Camano and it slipped through the water compared to my Aquabound. I'd like to hear some "opinions" about blade shape. Any help will be appreciated.

General Talk / America's Cup
« on: April 24, 2012, 09:53:29 PM »
A Wall Street Journal article talking about people renting their homes out to view the America's Cup race for $3,500 to $60,000 a month. I wonder if anyone would be interested in renting my kayak???

Others are plotting a cheaper course to view the regatta. Sean Randolph, president of the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, says he plans to watch the Cup from a kayak in a buffer zone that will be created on San Francisco Bay for nonmotorized boats. While Mr. Randolph's home in Marin County, north of San Francisco, has a view of the Bay, it doesn't overlook the Cup's racecourse, and he doesn't want to shell out thousands of dollars to rent a property.

"In a kayak, you're sort of participating because you're on the water and you're a little closer" to the action than on land, he says.

Fish Talk / squaw fish at Englebright
« on: September 20, 2010, 07:48:25 AM »
I was at Englebright the past weekend with a guy, who will remain nameless.
I don't  want him to to be associated with me, he probably wouldn't go fishing with me again.
First day hooked up with a nice brown, didn't get it in the boat, thought this is going to be fun. Near the of the day hooked my first squaw fish, not knowing what it was I kept it. I started to question my decision when I couldn't stand the smell and let it go. Man do they ever stink. After that I couldn't catch anything but squaw fish. It isn't something to be proud of when you're fishing buddy calls says you should change your screen name to the "carpster"!
Are these things in other lake near the Bay Area? I'd like to know so I can avoid them.
Mike
